China's top 500 companies invested a total of 1.81 trillion yuan in research and development, a year-on-year increase of 14.89%

The 2024 China Top 500 Enterprises list has been officially released. Although Huawei has a big gap with the Big Four Banks and the three oil companies in terms of total revenue, it is far ahead in R&D investment. This year, the top 500 Chinese companies invested a total of 1.81 trillion yuan in R&D, a year-on-year increase of 14.89%, and the R&D intensity reached a new high of 1.90%. In terms of the entire R&D investment, Huawei leads by a huge margin with an investment of 164.7 billion yuan. It is this huge investment that has made them truly leading in many aspects of the technology field.

Following closely behind is Alibaba (China) Co., Ltd., whose R&D investment also reached 52.051 billion yuan.

Well-known companies such as China Construction Co., Ltd., BYD Co., Ltd., and China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. also made the list, with R&D investments reaching 46.074 billion yuan, 39.575 billion yuan, and 36.833 billion yuan, respectively.

Also on the list are China National Petroleum Corporation, China Railway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and China Communications Construction Group, whose R&D investments all exceed 30 billion yuan.

Among the top 500 Chinese companies, State Grid ranked first with a revenue of 3.86 trillion yuan, China Petrochemical Corporation ranked second with a revenue of 3.04 trillion yuan, and China National Petroleum Corporation ranked third with a revenue of 2.99 trillion yuan.

China Construction, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, China Railway Engineering Group, Bank of China, and China Railway Construction Group ranked among the top ten; a total of 16 companies had operating revenues exceeding one trillion yuan.
