China Academy of Information and Communications Technology: Analysis Report on the Operation of the Domestic Mobile Phone Market in May 2024

In May 2024, 49 new mobile phone models were launched in China, a year-on-year increase of 53.1%. Among them, 27 were 5G mobile phones, a year-on-year increase of 145.5%, accounting for 55.1% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to May 2024, 179 new mobile phone models were launched in China, a year-on-year decrease of 1.1%. Among them, 98 5G mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%, accounting for 54.7% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

2. Composition of domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market

In May 2024, the shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones reached 25.301 million units, a year-on-year increase of 12.8%, accounting for 83.4% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 46 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 48.4%, accounting for 93.9% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to May 2024, the shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones reached 102 million units, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%, accounting for 83.4% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 166 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 1.8%, accounting for 92.7% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

III. Development of domestic smartphones

In May 2024, the shipment volume of smartphones reached 28.60 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%, accounting for 94.3% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 37 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 37.0%, accounting for 75.5% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to May 2024, 115 million smartphones were shipped, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%, accounting for 94.4% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 130 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 17.7%, accounting for 72.6% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.
