Qingbitang: Why does drying quilts in the sun cause allergic rhinitis?

The chief doctor of the Department of Allergy of Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University said: The symptoms of allergic rhinitis after drying the quilt may be due to two situations:

① Some patients with allergic rhinitis are allergic to cotton wool, which can trigger allergic rhinitis;

② It may be due to an allergy to dust mites. Dust mites accumulated on quilts are a common allergen. Many people like to pat their quilts after drying them, which causes the mites originally hidden in the quilts to fly into the air. The corpses, secretions and excrement of the mites will quickly cause allergic reactions in people, resulting in symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as nasal congestion, itchy nose, sneezing, and runny nose.

Qingbitang: How to dry quilts to prevent allergic rhinitis?

1. Choose the time to dry the quilt

If you dry your quilt for too long or too many times, the fibers of the quilt will shorten and easily fall off, which can easily cause allergic symptoms during sleep for patients with allergic rhinitis.

Therefore, the time to dry quilts should be between 10 am and 2 pm when the air is dry, and not too long.

2. Keep indoor ventilation

Mites like humid, high temperature, cotton and linen fabrics and dusty environments, and bedding is the main place for mites to live. When the number of mites increases, allergic rhinitis will be induced.

Therefore, it is equally important to keep the room ventilated and dry the quilt. Ventilation and drying are good ways to kill mites, so the room should be cleaned and dusted regularly, and the quilts, pillows, mattresses, etc. should be washed frequently. When using air conditioning, windows should be opened regularly to circulate air.

3. Don’t pat the quilt when drying it.

After the quilt is beaten, dust and mite excrement will fly up, which is more likely to cause allergic reactions.

In fact, after drying the quilt, you can use a portable vacuum cleaner to clean the dust on the surface of the quilt, or brush the surface of the quilt with a soft-bristled brush to remove the floating dust.
