Globalwebindex: Android OS usage increased from 32% to 65% in two years

Between the fourth quarter of 2011 and the fourth quarter of 2013, the Android operating system experienced explosive growth.
Two years ago, less than a third of mobile internet users had devices running the Android operating system. Now, that number has doubled to 65%.
Android wasn’t the only mobile operating system to see growth. iOS, for example, rose from 13% to 20%. No doubt Android’s growth was driven by strong adoption in emerging internet markets, where its retail price made it very attractive. We also saw a decline in the number of people who said they didn’t know which operating system they used: the rise in technology and brand awareness among mobile phone users may well explain some of Android’s strength.
But none of this detracts from Android's impressive growth, especially considering the declines seen by Windows Phone, Symbian and BlackBerry. Globally, Android is the dominant operating system by a wide margin.
