comScore: iPhone 5th Anniversary Data Review

June 29, 2012 marks the 5th anniversary of the release of Apple's first iPhone. This release is a milestone for both Apple and the entire mobile industry. The release of the iPhone ignited the smartphone market, changed the mobile Internet landscape, and even affected the entire digital ecosystem in just a few years. In July 2007, only 9 million Americans owned mobile phones, accounting for only 4% of the mobile phone market. By the end of 2012, more than 110 million Americans will own smartphones. Smartphones have entered the hands of the public.

Although iOS is the second largest smartphone platform in the United States after Android, with a market share of 31.9%, according to comScore data, there were 35.1 million iPhone users in May 2012. In the past five years, Apple has released five models of iPhone. The iPhone has also entered other major telecom operators, including Verizon and Sprint, from AT&T at the beginning. By analyzing the composition of the iPhone, it was found that in May 2012, three-quarters of iPhone users used iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s, accounting for 40% of the iOS smartphone market share. In May 2012, women accounted for 47% of iPhone users, while men accounted for 53%. Users aged 25-44 still accounted for a large proportion of iPhone users, at 46%. The younger and older groups grew the fastest. Users with a household income of 50K to 75K also grew rapidly, and now account for 1/5 of iPhone users.
