Allot: Global mobile VOIP and instant messaging traffic share in the second half of 2011

The report released by Allot counts the traffic of mainstream applications on mobile communication networks. The following is the development of VOIP and instant messaging traffic:

Overall, the VOIP and instant messaging markets are vibrant, with many new applications emerging. In the second half of 2011, Skype accounted for 79% of global mobile VOIP traffic. Although it is still the leader in the voip market, Skype's traffic share has decreased from 82% in the first half of 2011. It faces challenges from new entrants such as Viber, ooVoo, Tango and other applications.

Viber is a newcomer in the Voip market. With its rapid growth, it has occupied 2% of the market share, surpassing Voip applications such as GoogleTalk and Windows Live.

The instant messaging market changed dramatically in the second half of 2011. Only four months after its release, Facebook Messenger had already become the killer app in the instant messaging market, occupying 22% of the instant messaging market share.

WhatsApp, a cross-platform mobile messaging app, has grown rapidly, from less than 3% in the first half of 2011 to 11%. Yahoo Messenger, which was the mainstream instant messaging app in recent years, has declined significantly, from 29% to 17%. QQ has an 8% traffic share.
