Autumn Dryness During the Mid-Autumn Festival

Autumn Dryness During the Mid-Autumn Festival

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, let me tell you about autumn dryness. Autumn dryness is not only dryness of the skin, mouth and nose, but also combined with the coolness of autumn, it can also cause colds and coughs, with symptoms of dry mouth and nose, no sweat, headache and body pain, dry cough without sputum, or a small amount of white sputum.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the regulation and distribution of human water is closely related to the lung's function of spreading and descending. In the hot summer, the human body needs to release heat. Under the function of the lung's function of spreading and ascending, the human body's pores become loose, and the pores open. Water carries excess heat and is converted into sweat and discharged outward. Therefore, the skin is moist and the mouth and nose are not dry. In autumn, due to the change of seasons, the weather gradually turns cooler. In order to conserve heat, the lung's mechanism of descending and astringing begins to take effect, controlling or partially closing the channel for water to go upward and outward, and water is no longer fully discharged outward. Therefore, the skin, oral and nasal mucosa, and eyes of the human body will feel dry. This is the so-called autumn dryness.

It seems that in the autumn when it rains continuously, the autumn dryness is not caused by the dry weather, but the body's regulatory mechanism is at work.

Here are some dietary prescriptions to help you relieve the discomfort caused by autumn dryness.

Lily and almond tea. Take an appropriate amount of lily and almond, add two slices of ginger, boil water and add honey. It not only tastes good and can relieve dry mouth and nose, but also can prevent dry cough and cold caused by the cool weather after Mid-Autumn Festival.

If you have dry eyes, you can drink chrysanthemum and cassia seed tea. You can also use steam to fumigate your eyes before drinking, or use this tea for external application, which will have a good effect. If you have itchy eyes and the symptoms are slightly severe, you can add two cicada shells and boil them together for better results.

Remove the core of the sand pear, add honey and steam it until cooked. This can treat stubborn dry coughs in autumn. (Li Wuqiang, Director and Deputy Director of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Sanmenxia Wuqiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital)
