Beware! Not eating staple food will shorten your lifespan!

Staple food, as the name suggests, is the most important type of food. For Chinese residents, staple food refers to various grains.

Whether it is the "five grains for nourishment" mentioned in the "Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic" or the "mainly grains" mentioned in the modern "Chinese Dietary Guidelines", both emphasize the cornerstone status of grains in the diet.

However, as people's living standards gradually improve, the proportion of grains in our diet is getting smaller and smaller.

Data from the "Report on the Nutrition and Chronic Disease Status of Chinese Residents (2020)" show that:

The grain intake of Chinese residents from 2015 to 2017 was 305.8g/standard person-day.

This is a significant decrease compared to the intake of 335.4 grams per standard person per day between 2010 and 2013.

At the same time, refined grains account for more than 90% of the cereal foods consumed by Chinese residents, and more than 80% of adult residents do not consume enough whole grains, leading to the deficiency of B vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber in the human body.

So what adverse effects will eating less or no staple food have on the body?

Carbohydrates are an important source of energy for the human body, and glucose is one of the few nutrients that can directly provide energy to the brain. A normal person gets more than half of their daily energy from carbohydrates.

In addition, carbohydrates are a clean energy source for the human body. After burning in the body, they only produce carbon dioxide and water, and do not produce ammonia, ketone bodies and other combustion byproducts that are harmful to the human body.

If the human body is compared to a car:

Carbohydrates are like fuel ethanol, clean and pollution-free;

Protein and fat are like gasoline. Although they can burn to provide power, long-term use will produce a large amount of toxic products, which will bring a great processing burden to the human body's internal environment!

Therefore, if we do not eat staple foods, the brain will not get enough energy to maintain normal work, and our body can only use fat and protein, two less economical substances, to provide energy. In the long run, it is easy to cause acidosis and increase the burden on the kidneys.

Vitamin B1 is an important catalyst in the metabolism of energy substances in the human body. More than 60% of vitamin B1 comes from various whole grain foods.

If the intake of staple foods (especially whole grains) is insufficient, it will cause vitamin B1 deficiency, and the large amount of energy substances stored in our body will not be consumed normally.

If the energy storage substances in the body are compared to a pile of dry firewood, vitamin B1 is like a lit match. Only under the action of this match can the dry firewood burn fiercely and release the energy in the body.

Therefore, if you eat less staple food, you will not get enough vitamin B1, and the energy cannot be consumed quickly, then obesity, fatigue, and mental depression will come knocking on your door!

In recent years, the ketogenic diet has brought about a low-carb (no staple food) trend. Since the ketogenic diet can quickly lose weight, improve blood sugar problems, and has no obvious health hazards in the short term, it has been strongly sought after by countless people.

It wasn't until an article published in the authoritative journal The Lancet that the superstition of the ketogenic diet was finally pierced.

From the research results in the above figure, we can see that:

● When carbohydrate intake accounts for about 50% of total daily energy, the risk of death among the respondents is lower;

● The risk of death will increase when carbohydrate intake increases or decreases;

● After reducing carbohydrate intake, the risk will increase significantly, which is more dangerous than eating more carbohydrates!
