National Child Vaccination Day: Here’s what parents should know

Today is the 36th "National Children's Vaccination Day" in our country. This year's theme is "Timely vaccination to protect life and health."

Before vaccination, you should pay attention to:

① Bring your vaccination certificate: Parents should bring their own ID cards and their children’s vaccination certificates to facilitate the doctor to register the vaccination information.

② Pay attention to skin cleanliness: You should bathe your child before vaccination to prevent bacterial infection caused by contact with water at the vaccination site after vaccination.

③ Actively tell the doctor about your child’s medical history and health status: If your child has symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, cough, convulsions, etc., you should actively inform the doctor. You should also tell the doctor whether your child has any contraindications or allergy history.

After vaccination, you should pay attention to:

① Children need to stay for observation for 30 minutes after vaccination and can leave only if there are no allergies or abnormalities.

② Do not eat any warm food or drink within half an hour before or after taking oral vaccines such as polio vaccine (sugar pill).

③Children should drink more water, rest more, and avoid strenuous exercise after vaccination.

④ The vaccination site should be kept dry and clean for 24 hours. Try not to take a bath to prevent infection.

What should I do if adverse reactions occur after vaccination?

Due to the different physical conditions of children, the reactions after vaccination are also different, and some children will have adverse reactions to a certain extent. For example, redness, swelling, heat, pain, and nodules appear at the vaccination site. The main systemic reactions are fever and poor mental state. For local redness, swelling and nodules, cold or ice compresses should be used in the acute phase, and hot compresses can be used after the acute phase, which will help the nodules disappear. If fever is caused by vaccination, physical cooling should be selected. If the body temperature does not drop within 2-3 days and the child's mental state is very poor, medical treatment must be sought in time.
