When do daffodils bloom?

Narcissus starts to grow in autumn and blooms in winter, with a flowering period of about one month. Narcissus prefers cool climate during its growth period, with a suitable temperature of 10 to 20 degrees Celsius, and can withstand low temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius. The bulb expands in spring, and after drying, flower buds differentiate at above 26 degrees Celsius. After dormancy, the bulbs can grow roots when the temperature is high, but they do not produce leaves. They will only produce leaves when the temperature drops, and will produce flowers when the temperature is about 6 to 10 degrees Celsius. During the flowering period, if the temperature is too high, the flowers will not bloom well or will wilt and not bloom. Under appropriate temperature conditions, it likes light and is relatively shade-tolerant. For cultivating flowering bulbs, long-term light can inhibit leaf growth and help the flowers to elongate and rise above the leaves. It is better to use fertilizer and water during the growth period. If there is a lack of water, the growth will be poor. Narcissus needs to be fully dried in the later stage of growth, otherwise it will affect bud differentiation. When planting narcissus, the soil should be loose, swollen, neutral or slightly acidic.

What kind of daffodils are the most fragrant?

There are two varieties of daffodils in Zhangzhou, China (the origin of daffodils): "Yulinglong" and "Jinzhan Yintai". Yulinglong is a double-petal variety, while Jinzhan Yintai is a single-petal variety. Relatively speaking, Yulinglong flowers are more fragrant and bloom longer, but the yield is small and the price is high.

There are two main varieties of Zhangzhou daffodils. One is single-petal (as shown in the title picture), with six white petals spreading out to the four sides, and a wine cup-shaped golden corona in the middle, named "Golden Cup Silver Platform", commonly known as "Wine Cup Narcissus", with a strong fragrance; the other is double-petal, with layers of wrinkled petals, white on the top and light yellow on the bottom, elegantly named "Yu Linglong", commonly known as "Hundred Leaf Narcissus", with a slightly lighter fragrance. These two types of daffodils are elegant in shape and bloom in season. They are recognized by the world as the most flowering and best fragrant type of multi-flowered daffodils, and are described as the "national fragrance" flower by many ancient poets. The general cultivation method of daffodils is not difficult. As long as there is a handful of soil, a spoonful of water, suitable temperature and a certain amount of time, you can grow pleasing flowers.

Precautions for raising daffodils

Things to note when growing daffodils:

1. Narcissus is relatively cold-resistant, so it is called "flower in the snow". The critical cold resistance is -3 degrees Celsius to -3.5 degrees Celsius, and the leaf tips will be frozen.

2. To maintain a suitable temperature, you can use light regulation. It is best to have a few hours of light every day to promote good growth. If you encounter severe cold and the temperature is very low, you can take a plastic bag, put the daffodils and the pot in it with the bag opening facing up, and then blow air into the plastic bag. After it is full, tie the bag opening tightly to form a miniature greenhouse to resist cold waves. You can also use methods such as changing warm water to increase the temperature.

3. During the breeding process, pay attention to changing the water frequently, especially when the night temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius, to prevent root damage due to deterioration of water quality.

4. Control the flowering time. Under the conditions of sufficient light and clean water, when the indoor temperature is between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius, it takes about 40 days for daffodils to bloom from soaking; when the room temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius, it takes about 30 days; when the room temperature is 20 degrees Celsius, it only takes 25 days to bloom.

5. Growing daffodils does not require any fertilizer, only clean water.
