A friend of Huazi was diagnosed with high blood pressure, with a high pressure of 150 mmHg and a low pressure of 95 mmHg. He asked Huazi with a sad face whether he would become a medicine bottle and have to take medicine for the rest of his life. Huazi told him that taking antihypertensive drugs regularly is the best way to deal with high blood pressure, but some high blood pressure patients do not need to take medicine in a hurry. Now many people understand the harm of high blood pressure to the body. After being diagnosed with high blood pressure, they worry that it may lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and rush to take medicine. But in fact, high blood pressure patients who meet certain conditions do not need to take medicine for the time being. 1. What kind of hypertension can be treated without medication for the time being? 1. For hypertension that is discovered for the first time, although the blood pressure value has reached the hypertension diagnostic standard of 140/90 mmHg, it has not exceeded the secondary hypertension standard of 160/100 mmHg. 2. Fewer than 2 of the following risk factors, including age over 55 for males or over 65 for females; smokers; abnormal blood sugar; abnormal blood lipids; family history of premature cardiovascular disease; abdominal obesity (waist circumference greater than 90 cm for males and greater than 85 cm for females). 3. Do not have the following complications of hypertension, such as left ventricular hypertrophy, carotid atherosclerotic plaques; renal insufficiency (trace protein in the urine or elevated blood creatinine levels); coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke, atrial fibrillation and other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; peripheral vascular disease; kidney disease; retinopathy; diabetes. Hypertensive patients who meet all three of the above conditions do not need to take medication for the time being. 2. Non-drug treatment for hypertension Not taking medicine does not mean that hypertension does not need treatment, but if the blood pressure is slightly elevated, there are no complications, and there are not many risk factors, you can first change your lifestyle and use non-drug treatment for hypertension. If the blood pressure can be controlled to normal within 3 to 6 months, you do not need to take medicine. If non-drug methods are ineffective, drug treatment is needed. 1. Limit salt intake: Sodium ions in salt are an important factor in inducing high blood pressure. It is recommended that people with high blood pressure control their daily salt intake to between 3 and 6 grams. When cooking, you can choose low-sodium salt with added potassium chloride, the potassium ions in which help excrete sodium. 2. Weight loss: People who are overweight need to lose weight. Reducing fat accumulation can reduce peripheral vascular resistance and lower blood pressure. 3. Exercise: Exercise can increase blood vessel elasticity and has a good effect on lowering low blood pressure. Choose moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, more than 30 minutes each time, no less than 5 times a week. In addition, do strength training twice a week to promote muscle growth and increase basal metabolism. 4. Healthy diet: Replace one-third of the staple food with whole grains and cereals, eat less high-fat and high-sugar foods, and do not exceed 25 grams of fat and 50 grams of added sugar per day. You can eat more vegetables, but it is best not to eat more than half a pound of fruit per day, because fruit contains fructose, and eating too much will make you fat. 5. Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption: Cigarettes not only harm the respiratory tract and induce lung cancer, but also have a cardiovascular effect no less harmful than high blood pressure. If a person with high blood pressure smokes at the same time, they will basically be doomed to coronary heart disease. The effect of alcohol on the body will lower blood pressure in the short term and increase blood pressure in the long term, so it is best not to drink a drop of alcohol. If it is difficult to quit drinking, the daily alcohol intake should not exceed 25 grams. 6. Stabilize emotions: Long-term anxiety, tension, depression and other negative emotions can lead to sympathetic nerve excitement, excessive release of catecholamine hormones, and high blood pressure. Doing more outdoor sports, mountaineering, calligraphy, reading, making friends and other beneficial activities can help stabilize emotions and control blood pressure. To sum up, when high blood pressure is first discovered, if there are not many risk factors and no concurrent diseases, you can temporarily stop taking medicine. Use 3 to 6 months of lifestyle intervention and control blood pressure with non-drug methods. However, if blood pressure still cannot be controlled after 3 to 6 months, you should seek medical treatment and take antihypertensive drugs under the guidance of a doctor.
