Teach you to check yourself! How to determine whether your family members have cataracts?

Cataracts are a common eye disease among the elderly. As they age, most elderly people will eventually "deal with" cataracts. Today we will learn in advance what the common symptoms of cataracts are.

Typical symptoms of cataracts

Senile cataracts, also known as age-related cataracts, are closely related to aging and can eventually lead to blindness. The more common typical symptoms are:

1. Gradually blurred vision

The common symptom of cataract is progressive blurring of vision. If the normal vision of a person is through a piece of clear glass, the vision of a cataract patient is like through a piece of "frosted glass", and everything is blurry. As time goes by, the blurriness may gradually increase until it is completely blurred.

2. Double vision

The appearance of aperture when looking at things is mainly because in the early stage of cataract, the lens has not yet become completely cloudy and some parts are still transparent. Therefore, when the light hits the lens and is refracted to the retina, double or even multiple images will appear.

3. Presbyopia suddenly improves

Some elderly people are very happy to find that their presbyopia symptoms are suddenly relieved and they can read and write without reading glasses. In fact, this is only a temporary phenomenon and a typical symptom of early cataracts. As the cataract gradually worsens, it becomes unclear whether you are looking far or near.

4. Dark shadows, dark shadows, and color recognition are reduced

When cataracts occur, some patients will find that their color recognition decreases, the world in front of their eyes is no longer as bright as before, and the color contrast of objects is no longer clear and strong, as if the world has turned into black and white.

5. Day blindness or night blindness

Some cataract patients may also experience day blindness or night blindness. Day blindness refers to the vision in bright light being worse than in the evening or at night; night blindness is just the opposite, the vision at night or in dim light suddenly becomes worse than before.

Dr. Wang Yong, deputy director of Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital (Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital Hubei Branch) and director of the Cataract and Presbyopia Department, reminds that if patients suddenly experience vision loss and blurred vision, they must go to a professional and regular ophthalmology hospital for a comprehensive examination as soon as possible. If you have cataracts, early detection and early treatment are necessary to achieve better surgical results.

Treatment of cataracts

The process of lens opacification is like the process of an egg being cooked. Is there any way to make a cooked egg raw again? Obviously not. Therefore, the process of lens opacification in cataracts is irreversible. If you want to see clearly, you have to remove the original opaque lens and replace it with a new artificial lens. Therefore, surgery is currently the only effective treatment for cataracts!

Cataract surgery "black technology" - femtosecond laser cataract surgery

Femtosecond laser cataract surgery is a knife-free surgery; the size and position of the capsulotomy are personalized by computer and are a standard circle; the use of laser to separate the cloudy lens into small pieces for pre-cleavage can effectively reduce the use of ultrasonic energy and reduce thermal damage.

Femtosecond laser cataract surgery has better advantages in some difficult cases or high-end lens implantation. It has short operation time and low incidence of postoperative complications, reduces the risk of endothelial cell damage, makes artificial lens implantation more stable, and has more stable and predictable postoperative effects, allowing patients to see the light again more easily.
