Should you fish bottom or float when fishing at night? Most of the time it depends on the fish species or the fishing conditions. For example, when fishing for silver carp, bighead carp, and black carp, you usually search for the swimming layer where the fish are and then fish on the float. The depth of float fishing also depends on the weather and the fish conditions. Sometimes you can even artificially change the swimming layer where the fish are. It is not surprising that you can catch crucian carp at the bottom by floating fishing frequently.

When fishing at night, should you fish at the bottom or float?

Hand rod: Generally, bottom fishing is done at night. At night, fish usually feed at the bottom. For example, carp, grass carp, dace, pomfret, etc. are bottom fish. Whitebait and black bass usually don't come out at night. Floating fishing is suitable for around 5-10 in the morning and 5-7 in the evening. In the morning and evening, as long as the weather is good and the air pressure is suitable, fish will generally float to the surface to feed. So whether to fish at the bottom or float depends on the time period. There is no absolute time limit.

Sea rod: This can be hung with a large float, and you can fish for silver carp, silver carp and upper layer fish at night. Grass carp will also come out to look for food in the evening and morning.

What is the difference between bottom fishing and float fishing?

Bottom fishing

This fishing method is mainly used for bottom-dwelling fish. It is the most widely used method in sea fishing, and the fishing gear is also relatively simple. The fishing rod is mostly a soft-tuned small rock fishing rod with a 4000-type fishing reel, usually with a single hook, double hooks, and string hooks.

When fishing, you can throw it into the water or let it go vertically. When it reaches the bottom, tighten the line slightly and wait for the fish to bite. Since there is no float installed, two small sections of 1 cm hose should be put on the tip of the rod for night fishing, which can just fit the glow stick. In this way, you can judge the timing of lifting the rod to stab the fish by observing the movement of the rod tip. Usually, the continuous movement of the rod tip to a strong bend is used as a reference.

Float fishing

The target fish of this fishing method are the pelagic fish in the water. In sea fishing, perch can be said to be the first target fish for floating fishing.

In our sea area, spring and autumn are the seasons for bass migration every year, which is also the peak season for bass fishing. When sea fishing enthusiasts here go fishing for bass at night, they all use the floating shrimp fishing method.

This is a fishing method for bass with the help of a float. Generally, a medium-hard sea rod is used, with a 5000-type spinning reel wound with No. 8 transparent nylon line, and a through line is used for fishing. The float is a large external plastic float, with a 30-gram through-heart sinker, and the distance between the sinker and the hook is determined by a space bean, with a distance of about 40 cm between the two. The hook can be a No. 18 special bass hook, with a large shrimp, and the fishing depth can be about 50 cm.

In order to see the signal of bass biting the hook clearly at night, anglers usually put a plastic hollow tube about 4 cm long on the plastic float, and then insert a glow stick into the tube.

For me, I prefer bottom fishing, which is more comfortable. Moreover, it can be fished all year round, and the target fish will be diverse, full of many unknown novelties!

Why is it difficult to fish when the reservoir water level rises?

After the water level rises, the reservoir area becomes larger and the fish density becomes smaller, making fishing more difficult.

During the period of high water, there will be heavy rain, and the rain will wash the small insects and plant seeds on the shore into the water. At the same time, the rising water will also submerge the green grass on the side. With the corpses of small insects and grass seeds, as well as large areas of green grass, the fish food seems to be very sufficient for a while, which directly makes it difficult for us to catch fish.

After the water level rose, the old fishing spots that I used to frequent have been submerged by the rising rain water, and the underwater situation has become complicated. If you want to fish, you have to explore a good fishing spot again, which takes a certain amount of time and energy and is quite troublesome.
