Can the newly bought azalea be repotted? Under what circumstances does the azalea need to be repotted?

As people's quality of life improves, more and more people like to grow some flowers and plants at home, and azaleas are particularly popular. So can the newly bought azaleas be repotted? Under what circumstances does the azalea need to be repotted? Let's take a look.

Can I repot my newly bought azalea?

When you buy azaleas and repot them, make sure they have adapted to your environment and have survived before you repot them. Don't just repot them without thinking twice, as 80% of them will die. Also, don't repot them during the flowering period. Wait until the flowers fade before repotting them, as this will not affect their blooming.

Azaleas usually bloom around the Spring Festival and fade in April or May. It is recommended to change the pot in late spring or early summer. At this time, the flowers have just fallen and the ones that can survive should have survived. Change the pot and add enough base fertilizer to lay a good foundation for the azalea to sprout new buds, so that the pot will be full of flowers again next year.

When does azalea need to be repotted?

One is that the flowerpot is too small, which is not conducive to the growth of azaleas. Generally, the size of the flowerpot is measured by the width of the corolla and the diameter of the pot mouth. The diameter of the pot mouth should not be less than half of the corolla. If you are more particular, the diameter of the pot mouth should not be less than one-third of the corolla.

The second reason is that the flower has been grown for a long time and the soil in the pot can no longer provide nutrients to the flower, or the soil in the pot has become compacted, so the pot needs to be changed.

When is the best time to repot azalea?

You can change the pot and soil in all seasons, but the best time to change the pot is in early spring before it blooms. If the azalea has already formed buds, do not change the pot, as this will easily cause the buds to fall off. When changing the pot, remember to sprinkle chicken manure or bone meal and other fertilizers on the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. With these base fertilizers, the azalea will bloom well in the spring.
