Why does the car brake lock when it is parked for a long time? How to solve the problem of car brake jam?

Brakes are the parts needed for emergency braking of a car. Some people may not use their car for a while, and when they drive again, they find that the brakes are locked. So what is the reason? And how to solve it?

Why does the brakes lock when the car is parked for a long time?

This situation occurs not only in small cars but also in large cars. When the weather is humid or the environment is in a strong acid, alkali and salt area near the sea, the brake disc and brake cylinder may rust. It is not surprising that the brake pads are stuck, especially for cars with drum brakes on the rear wheels, which is more serious because the rust is invisible inside.

In addition, vehicles that do not maintain their brake systems for a long time will also be like this. The brake cylinder on the wheel side is an oil cylinder that is pushed out by brake fluid. The oil cylinder is made of steel. Once it rusts and its movement is hindered, it will be pushed out and cannot be reset.

If it gets stuck, it is recommended not to start it to avoid damage to the machine. The first important thing is to find a professional shop for repair.

How to solve the problem of car brake stuck

If the brakes are stuck, there are two ways to deal with it. One is to force start the car by pressing the accelerator hard. As long as the rear wheel can move normally, it means there is no problem. The other is to remove the tire and hit the brake drum twice with a hammer to loosen the contact surface between the brake drum and the brake pad.

It is best to perform regular maintenance, use a good brake maintenance kit to do comprehensive maintenance and replace the brake fluid in time.

If the brake drum gets flooded after washing the car or when it rains, do not stop immediately, but drive for a while and apply the brakes several times to allow the water to evaporate, or do not apply the handbrake, put the manual transmission in 1st gear, and the automatic transmission in P gear, so that the car will not slip. In this way, the brake drum will not come into contact with the brake pad, which will not cause rust and jam.

How do I know if the 4S shop has replaced the brake pads?

1. Check the brake pad thickness from the gap in the wheel hub. The new one is about 15mm, and the old one is generally less than 5mm.

2. Check whether the old parts are still there after replacement. Even if the old brake pads are used and not replaced with new ones, the car has a brake pad wear alarm indicator function, and the indicator light on the instrument will not go out.

After replacing the new brake pads, you must not drive at high speed all at once, because the braking effect of the new brake pads is not good, and the braking distance will be very long during emergency braking! ! New brake pads need to be run-in. It is also recommended to replace the brake pads two by two, not all at once.
