Why does the baby burp after feeding? How to burp the baby

It is common for newborns to hiccup after feeding. Parents do not need to worry too much. They can adjust the care or feeding methods for the baby in time. In what situations are babies prone to hiccups?

Why does the baby burp after feeding?

Drinking too much milk.

When feeding your baby, do not feed your baby too much breast milk or infant formula at one time. The stomach capacity of a newborn baby is very small. On the first day after birth, it is about the size of a cherry, 3-7 days after birth, it is about the size of a strawberry, and 6 days to 1 month after birth, it is about the size of a peach. So do not feed your baby too much. Overfeeding can easily cause the baby to hiccup.

Eating too quickly.

Don't wait until your baby is very hungry before feeding him. If your baby drinks too hard when he is very hungry, the milk will enter his mouth too quickly and may cause hiccups.

Getting frightened after eating.

If the baby suddenly hears a loud noise from outside after feeding, he may be frightened and cause hiccups.

The baby has caught a cold.

If the baby's hiccups are loud and continuous, it may be that he is wearing too little or has caught a cold after sweating. At this time, you can change the baby into a piece of clothing that is of appropriate thickness.

How to burp your baby

1. Hold the baby upright.

Let the baby lie on your shoulder, and the adult leans back (try not to let the baby support yourself) with the stomach horizontal. Be careful not to squeeze the baby's stomach, and pat the baby's back with your hollow palms to help the baby relieve gas.

This is the more commonly used method.

2. Sit down.

Let the baby sit on the mother's lap. The mother supports the baby's head and chin with one hand, and pats the baby's upper back with the other hand.

3. Lie down.

Let the baby lie on your lap with his head slightly downward, support the baby with one hand and pat him with the other hand.

What to do if your baby doesn't burp when feeding

Not every baby will burp after eating formula or milk. It is possible that your baby will not burp after eating formula, which is also normal. But it is abnormal for other babies to burp after eating formula.

Every baby has a different physique. If your baby doesn't spit up milk, spit up milk, cry, or burp after eating milk powder, don't force the baby to burp.
