What is the cause of inflammation and suppuration of cesarean section wound? How to deal with inflammation and suppuration of cesarean section wound?

We all know that many pregnant mothers choose caesarean section when giving birth. After caesarean section, there will be wounds on the body, which need some time to heal and recover. If many mothers do not take proper care of their wounds, it is easy for the wounds to become inflamed and fester. So what should we do if the wounds become inflamed and fester after delivery? Let's take a closer look!

What to do if the wound becomes inflamed and suppurated after childbirth

First, we need to determine whether the inflammation is serious and whether the suppuration is serious. If it is only a slight inflammation, swelling and suppuration of the epidermis, the mother can use iodine cotton balls to clean the pus, and then disinfect it with iodine or medical alcohol, and finally cover it with sterile gauze. And clean and replace it regularly, change it once a day or every two days according to the severity.

If the inflammation and suppuration are serious, it is best to go to the hospital for treatment, because if the inflammation is serious, it is possible that the skin will also be suppurated, and there may even be rotten flesh. If there is no rotten granulation tissue, etc., then the pus needs to be drained out first, and then cleaned. However, if it is more serious, there is not only pus but also rotten tissue around it, then the pus and rotten flesh need to be cleaned up, disinfected and sutured a second time. This situation is more painful than the previous two. And it can prolong the healing time of the cesarean section incision. If the mother is not sure whether there is rotten flesh on the incision, she can smell it. Generally, it will emit a fishy smell if it is rotten. Or there is more pus oozing out, the wound is soft to the touch and the pain is obvious. (The healed incision will be harder than the surrounding flesh because of the new granulation tissue and scars).

Why does the wound become inflamed and suppurated after childbirth?

The surface wound of the cesarean section will slowly heal within 5-10 days. However, if the weather is too hot, the cesarean section wound is soaked for a long time, the pregnant woman is not properly cared for and has poor resistance, or she is too obese and there is purulent inflammation caused by fat liquefaction and accumulation, or the wound is infected, then inflammation will occur and even pus will flow out.

Most of them are caused by improper care, which leads to infection and inflammation of the incision. Although the incision of a cesarean section is large, it is a sterile incision and needs to be disinfected and replaced with sterile gauze regularly after delivery. And within two weeks after the cesarean section, the incision cannot be exposed to water, whether it is hot or cold water, even warm water for bathing, let alone a tub bath. In addition, because the weather is relatively hot and the mother is prone to sweating, if it is not cleaned in time, it is easy to breed bacteria. Then the cesarean section incision is prone to inflammation due to bacterial infection, and it begins to become red, swollen and tender, and fester in severe cases.

How long does it take for a postpartum wound to heal?

Compared with natural birth, cesarean section is more harmful to the body because it requires a 7-15 cm incision in the abdomen of the mother, and when suturing the incision, 8 layers of sutures are required from the surface of the skin to the endometrium. In addition, the time for the wound to heal completely after cesarean section is relatively slow. Generally, it takes 5-7 days for the surface of the skin to heal, but it takes 4-6 weeks for the entire cesarean section incision to heal. And if you wait until the cesarean section incision is completely healed, it will take at least half a year, so generally speaking, it is recommended that mothers wait two years after cesarean section before having another child.
