Why don't you use water to bathe your chinchilla? Can you bathe a pregnant chinchilla?

Although chinchillas are called cats, they are indeed rodents, and the way they are raised is more like rodent pets, such as hamsters. Like hamsters, chinchillas cannot be bathed with water, but with special bath sand. So, can chinchillas be bathed when they are pregnant?

Why don't chinchillas use water to bathe?

Chinchillas do not have sweat glands so they do not need water to bathe.

Generally, you can use bath sand to bathe chinchillas. First, put the bath sand in the chinchilla's cage and then put the chinchilla in it; second, if the chinchilla can't bathe by itself, the owner can hold the bath sand on its body and let it swing its body to achieve the purpose of bathing. Chinchillas generally only need to be bathed once a week, and do not need to be bathed frequently.

Can a pregnant chinchilla take a bath?

Chinchillas can be bathed when they are pregnant, but do not bathe them one week before the due date to avoid premature birth when rolling in the bath sand. In addition, chinchillas cannot be bathed during the postpartum period to prevent infection. Because the chrysanthemum of the mother chinchilla is not closed after delivery, it is easy to get infected if bath sand is used. During pregnancy, chinchillas need to pay attention to nutritional supplements, plus moderate feeding, so that they are too fat and difficult to give birth.

How to bathe a chinchilla

Generally, chinchillas are placed in a bathtub filled with bath sand, and they will bathe themselves. Owners bathe chinchillas every 2-3 days, and each bath takes about 10-15 minutes. However, owners cannot bathe chinchillas with water to avoid symptoms such as colds and gastrointestinal discomfort.

Please note that to bathe a chinchilla, you need to buy special bath sand instead of just washing it with water.
