How to plant pollution-free sweet potatoes? Is it better to turn the vines or lift them?

Sweet potatoes are very common crops. Whether they are eaten raw, steamed, boiled, baked or fried, they are very delicious. Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber, nutritious and good for health. Now people advocate natural and pollution-free production, so how to grow pollution-free sweet potatoes?

How to grow pollution-free sweet potatoes

soil

The soil must not be polluted, especially heavy metal pollution. The soil used to grow pollution-free sweet potatoes needs to be loose and rich in organic matter. The soil needs to be plowed about 30 centimeters deep. When plowing the land, livestock manure can be applied, and then 20 kilograms of phosphate fertilizer per mu can be added. At the same time, tea dregs powder can be added to the soil. Tea dregs powder is the powder after squeezing camellia oil. It is safe, environmentally friendly and non-toxic to plants. It is mainly used to kill insects in the soil.

In order to increase the sunlight area of the soil, increase ventilation and improve the drainage capacity of the soil, and prevent the sweet potatoes from being flooded, it is necessary to ridge the soil.

Seedlings

The choice of sweet potato seedlings determines the yield and quality of sweet potatoes. When choosing sweet potato seedlings, you should first choose sweet potato seedlings of the same variety, and then choose those that grow strong. Now there are many better quality ones with high yield and strong disease resistance. For example, there are Xinnong No. 4, Xinyin No. 1, Jingshu No. 8, etc.

plant

When planting sweet potato seedlings, they should not be planted too deep or too shallow. Generally, the planting depth is 5-8 cm. Planting is usually done before the rain, which can save labor. More importantly, planting before the rain is conducive to the survival of sweet potato seedlings.

Before planting, you can spray the sweet potato seedlings with dimethoate to kill insects. After cutting the seedlings, you can soak the 6-8 cm position of the seedling roots in a carbendazim solution for 2 minutes to sterilize them.

Post-planting management

After planting, the main management is fertilizer and water.

About 7 days after planting, when the sweet potato leaves turn green, you can apply human manure as seedling fertilizer, or you can apply 10 kg of urea per mu. One month later, apply 15 kg of urea and 15 kg of potassium sulfate to promote the growth of sweet potato vines. When the sweet potato vines are 1 meter tall, you can sprinkle some wood ash on the leaves in the morning when there is dew. If the sweet potato vines grow too vigorously, you can turn the vines to inhibit their nutritional growth. However, if the variety has few vines, you don't need to turn the vines.

After planting, when the sweet potato vines grow to almost cover the ground, you should loosen the soil to facilitate the expansion of the sweet potatoes in the later stage. Sweet potatoes are drought-resistant crops. Watering should be done according to the soil conditions. Basically, watering twice a month is enough. If you encounter particularly dry weather, you can increase the watering frequency appropriately.

In the middle and late stages of sweet potato swelling, 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be sprayed as foliar fertilizer.

Pest Control

The main pests of sweet potatoes are weevils, hawk moths, etc. There is no special way to prevent and control weevils. Usually, dimethoate or trichlorfon is used to spray the roots of the vines, or 10-15 kg of tea dregs powder per mu can be soaked in water and then watered. Other foliar pests can be killed by spraying dimethoate.

Is it better to turn or lift the vines when growing sweet potatoes?

There is some controversy over this issue.

Turning the sweet potato vines will damage the vines and leaves. Sweet potato vines contain a lot of water, especially after rainy weather, the vines will have more water, making them particularly easy to break. If you turn the vines at this time, it will cause the vines and leaves to break, the leaves to fall off, and the leaves to turn yellow, which will seriously affect photosynthesis. If you lift the vines, you will gently lift the sweet potato vines and leaves to block the sweet potato's aerial roots from taking root in the soil. In comparison, lifting the vines is less harmful.

Turning the vines affects photosynthesis. Turning the vines of sweet potatoes will turn the entire stem and leaves upside down, disrupting the growth distribution of the sweet potato leaves themselves. Each time the vines are turned, it takes 5-7 days for the sweet potato leaves to resume normal growth, which seriously affects the growth of sweet potato tubers. Lifting the vines will not disrupt the growth direction of the sweet potato leaves.

In comparison, the effect of vine lifting is better than vine turning. In fact, in addition to vine lifting and vine turning to control the excessive growth of sweet potato stems and leaves, you can also prevent the excessive growth of sweet potato stems and leaves by spraying growth control agents.

What soil is suitable for growing sweet potatoes?

The soil for growing sweet potatoes needs to be rich in humus, loose in texture, well-ventilated, moderately dry and wet, ventilated and sunny, and sandy neutral soil with plenty of sunlight. In plain areas, it is suitable for sandy soil with convenient drainage and high terrain; in mountainous areas, it is suitable for sandy slopes with high organic matter.

At present, the main areas for sweet potato cultivation in my country include Liaoning, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, as well as Sichuan, Hunan, Anhui, Jiangsu and other provinces in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and other provinces in the south.
