What to do if your tailbone hurts after a cesarean section

Although cesarean section greatly reduces the pain of pregnant women during delivery, it will leave many sequelae to the pregnant woman's body. For example, since cesarean section is performed by cutting open the abdomen, the abdomen of the mother will be left with a cesarean section scar. Some pregnant women even find that they experience unexplained pain in their coccyx for a period of time after a caesarean section. So what should you do if you have coccyx pain caused by cesarean section?

What to do if your coccyx hurts after a cesarean section

To treat postpartum coccyx pain, the cause must be found out. So far, the treatment of coccyx pain is generally divided into two types: conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment of coccyx pain may take several weeks or even several months. If there is no improvement after a long period of conservative treatment and the coccyx joint is obviously unstable or loose, the coccyx can be surgically removed. It will take about four to eight months for the symptoms to improve after the operation. Mothers can use the following four methods to relieve and treat postpartum coccyx pain:

1. When you have coccyx pain, you can apply hot compress to increase local blood circulation and relax local muscles.

2. Lie on your back. When sitting, be careful not to let the painful area come into contact with hard objects. It is best to sit on a soft cushion or rubber ring.

3. Coccyx pain will generally gradually ease 1-2 months after delivery, in order to avoid this phenomenon. If the baby is too heavy (over 4 kg) or the mother has a narrow pelvis, surgical intervention or cesarean section should be performed promptly during delivery.

4. If the postpartum pain does not subside or improve, see a doctor as soon as possible and take necessary treatment.

This is mainly caused by changes in the pelvic muscles of the mother during the delivery process. Attention should be paid to pelvic muscle recovery treatment, which can effectively treat postpartum coccyx pain.

After giving birth, the pelvic muscles become extremely stretched and weak. Therefore, exercise these muscles as often as possible to restore them to a strong state. The pelvis is a skeletal bowl that consists of two large pelvic bones that are connected below the base of the spine (sacrum) at a joint called the sacroiliac joint. The pelvic bones are connected by a joint in the front called the pubic joint. Below the sacrum of the spine are four small bones that make up the coccyx.
