How to Clean Your Dog's Ears

Dog ear care includes two parts: one is to clean the dirt around the auricle, and the other is to clean the pollutants in the ear canal. Clean the dog's ears. If the dog is disobedient, it is recommended to send the pet to a pet center for cleaning. If you can restrain the pet yourself, you can use cotton to gently reach 1 cm into the ear canal. Wipe along the folds of the dog's ear canal and do not move too much.

Check your dog's ears once or twice a month. If the skin around and inside the auricle is light pink, it means the dog is healthy. Otherwise, find out the cause and treat it in time. Before caring for your pet's ears, if the long hair near the ears grows into the ears, trim the hair first.

How to clean your dog's ears

1. Pets' ears are L-shaped, so it is easy to accumulate wax and dirt, which can cause diseases. Therefore, it is recommended to clean the ears at least once a week. If the external ear canal is found to be red and there is a foul odor, it means that the pet's ears are infected and need to be diagnosed and treated at a pet hospital. If it is a long-eared dog, such as a cocker, it is recommended to clean it 2-3 times a week, because its ears are covered with long hair, which blocks the skin from moisture and air permeability, which can easily cause diseases.

2. To clean the ears, you must first cut off the long hair facing the ear canal. You can use ear powder to pluck the hair. Do not sprinkle ear powder in invisible places, and do not pluck too much each time, otherwise the dog will feel pain and need someone to restrain it if necessary.

3. After the hair inside the ear is removed, use a cotton ball or gauze dipped in ear cleaning liquid to remove dirt. Do not apply it too far.

4. Pull the auricle downwards and place your hand on your head to stop it from shaking. Use your other hand to massage the base of the ear to pour out the ear wash solution and allow any dirt in the ear to flow out.

5. After the massage, release your hands and the dog will shake its head. This is an instinctive reaction. Don't panic. It can also make the earwax deep inside float to the surface.

6. Once the earwax is cleaned out, just clean it with a cotton swab. There is no need to insert it deep into the ear to clean.

How to clean your cat's ears

1. Put a few drops of pet-specific ear cleaning solution into the ears of cats and dogs. Never use water or alcohol, as this will have no effect.

2. Gently rub the ears of cats and dogs for 30 seconds to help soften the dirt in their ears.

3. Let your pet shake its head to get rid of some dirt.

4. Use a firm cotton swab to gently clean the remaining dirt on the ears of cats and dogs. Do not insert the cotton swab too deep to prevent the cotton swab head from getting stuck deep in the ear and being unable to come out.

5. Put a few drops of care solution into the ear and you are done.
