After a period of pregnancy, the baby is born into this world, but a month in medicine is not calculated as we do in daily life. So, how many weeks are there in total during pregnancy?

Pregnant women usually give birth within 38-42 weeks of pregnancy, all of which are full-term. Because every pregnant woman cannot accurately determine the time of pregnancy, medicine requires that the expected date of delivery be calculated from the first day of the pregnancy. The entire pregnancy period is 280 days and 10 gestational months (each gestational month is 28 days). Because each woman's menstrual cycle is of different length, it is normal for the estimated due date to differ from the actual due date by 1-2 weeks.

The beginning of pregnancy can be determined in a number of ways. One is by detecting the testosterone produced by the newly formed embryo. Clinical urine and blood tests can detect pregnancy within 6-8 days after conception. Home urine tests usually take 12-15 days to detect effectively. Both methods can only detect pregnancy but cannot tell the time of pregnancy.

Pregnancy can also be confirmed by the cessation of menstruation, which occurs earlier than any early pregnancy symptoms. In fact, doctors usually calculate the date of pregnancy (that is, the "age" of the test tube embryo) based on the first day of the previous menstrual period reported by the woman. Because the pregnancy time is basically the same, the test tube embryo and the fetus are only distinguished scientifically and are not easy to distinguish in an actual pregnancy.

Secondly, some women cannot remember their due date, so when making a diagnosis, the doctor can only calculate the time based on the beginning of early pregnancy symptoms, the beginning of fetal movement, and manual measurement of the uterine height. Therefore, as long as the baby's indicators are normal, it is not a problem even if it cannot reach 280 days.
