Normal range of amniotic fluid depth in late pregnancy

The amniotic fluid of pregnant women is one of the factors that maintain the survival of the fetus. Too much or too little amniotic fluid in pregnant women will directly affect the development of the fetus. In order to determine whether the amniotic fluid index is within the normal range. Therefore, prenatal check-ups are very important. So, what is the normal range of amniotic fluid index in late pregnancy? Let’s take a detailed look at this issue below.

The amniotic fluid index in late pregnancy is within normal range

Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI): The umbilical line and the linea alba are used as markers to divide the uterus into four quadrants. The vertical diameter of the largest amniotic reservoir in each quadrant is accurately measured. The sum of the four is the amniotic fluid index.

When measuring AFI, please note: if the sheep reservoir is on both sides of the marking line, only measure the diameter of one side. fetus pregnant woman amniotic fluid

The standard value range is: 5~18cm

The amniotic fluid of pregnant women is one of the factors to maintain the survival of the fetus. Before the test tube embryo begins to be produced, the amniotic fluid of pregnant women must first expand the solid endometrium and provide the free movement space required for the development of the fetus. Its functions also include: acting as a buffer when the uterus is impacted by external forces, maintaining a stable temperature, analyzing components to understand the health and maturity of the fetus, and when it hurts, the water bag transmits pressure to help dilate the cervix.

The amount of amniotic fluid flow varies from person to person. It generally increases gradually with the increase of pregnancy weeks, about 50cc at 12 weeks, about 300-400cc in the second trimester, and reaches a maximum of about 1000cc at 36-38 weeks of pregnancy, and decreases significantly after the delivery period. In the early stages of pregnancy, the amniotic fluid is mainly composed of the amniotic membrane covering the embryo and the fetal umbilical cord. After four months, the amount and composition of the amniotic fluid can be adjusted by the fetus's swallowing of the amniotic fluid and urine. In addition, the entry and exit of the amniotic fluid into the respiratory tract will also have a certain effect.
