Is ankylosing spondylitis serious in women?

Ankylosing spondylitis in women belongs to the range of rheumatic diseases and is a type of spinal osteoarthritis with negative blood cell test results. The cause of this disease is still unknown. It is a chronic disease with the spine as the main site of disease progression, invading the sacroiliac joints, causing ankylosing and fibrosis of the spine, and is an autoimmune system disease. Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that mainly affects the sacroiliac joints, spinal condyles, paraspinal soft tissues and jugular joints, and may be accompanied by extra-joint manifestations.

The clinical manifestations are pain in the waist, back, neck, buttocks, hips and joints. In severe cases, spinal deformity and joint ankylosis may occur. The purpose of treatment is to control inflammation, relieve or alleviate symptoms, maintain normal posture and best functional position, and prevent deformity. To achieve the above goals, the key is to diagnose and treat the disease in the early stages, and adopt comprehensive measures for treatment, including educating patients and their families, physical therapy, acupuncture therapy, medication and surgical treatment. If you actively treat the disease and take it according to the treatment process, the symptoms can generally be controlled very well. If the pain persists, it will aggravate the symptoms and may also cause individual body movement disorders.

What are the symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis in women?

1. The typical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis mainly include: low back pain, morning stiffness, restricted intervertebral disc movement in all directions and reduced diaphragm activity. In the early stages of decreased intervertebral disc and diaphragm mobility, enthesitis is often the cause and responds well to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In the middle and late stages, it is caused by ankylosing spondylosis and does not respond well to treatment. As the disease progresses, the entire spine may become ankylosed from top to bottom. At first, the lumbar lordosis disappears, resulting in a hunchback deformity and restricted cervical vertebrae movement. The chest ribs are connected with the diaphragm to stiffen, and breathing relies on the movement of the diaphragm.

2. In the late stage of ankylosing spondylitis, the main symptoms are lower back or lumbosacral pain; lumbar muscle stiffness when getting up in the morning; severe pain radiating upward from the lumbosacral region; limited spinal movement and muscle stiffness; fatigue, sleepiness, chest tightness and shortness of breath, pale complexion, weight loss, and pelvic inversion radiographs show blurred bone edges of the sacroiliac joint, especially on the ilium side, accompanied by patchy sclerosis on both sides of the joint.

3. Late-stage symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis and its clinical manifestations: long-term accompanied by severe osteoporosis and prone to fractures. Cervical fractures can often lead to death. The common clinical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis are sacroiliac joint compression disease, restricted spinal flexion, extension, scoliosis and rotation, reduced diaphragm activity, and an occipital-wall distance of >0.
