Why are pregnant women more likely to get syphilis?

Why are pregnant women very susceptible to syphilis? Syphilis is a chronic infectious disease. It is caused by Treponema pallidum, and the disease lasts for a long time. In the early stage, it attacks the sexual organs and skin, and in the late stage, it attacks the internal organs of the whole body. So why are pregnant women so susceptible to syphilis?

Why are pregnant women very susceptible to syphilis?

1. Why are pregnant women very likely to get syphilis?

Common reasons are as follows: unclean sexual life. Unclean sexual life is the main cause of syphilis infection, and syphilis is almost entirely caused by sexual contact. Syphilis patients are pathogens with strong transmissibility and high infection rate, and the disease usually occurs 7-60 days after infection. The immunity itself is reduced. The key is that it is not sexually transmitted. The infection can mainly be caused by touching the secretions of syphilis patients or items contaminated by the environment, such as cotton towels, foot cloths, foot basins, clothes, and even toilet seats stained with secretions. Wound infection. Syphilis bacteria can invade the body through small cracks in the skin or mucous membranes, lie dormant for several days, and the disease begins when the bacteria multiply to a sufficient number. Therefore, we must treat the ruptured wound with caution.

2. Harm of syphilis in pregnant women

Syphilis during pregnancy can not only affect the physical and mental health of pregnant women, but also affect the development of the baby, causing miscarriage, premature birth, and stillbirth. Even if the pregnancy can be maintained until the pregnant woman gives birth, the probability of the baby suffering from congenital syphilis is very high. Although some fetuses grow and develop normally, they may still come into contact with sexual organ lesions and become infected when passing through the birth canal. Data show that for women with untreated early-pregnancy syphilis, the survival rate of the fetus is only about 50%, and most of the fetuses will become congenital syphilis. Although the fetal survival rate of women with syphilis during the critical period is around 80%, more than half of the children will develop congenital syphilis during their infancy.

3. What should pregnant women do if they have syphilis?

Screening and syphilis treatment should be carried out within 3 months of pregnancy. If a pregnant woman is diagnosed with syphilis, it is best to choose abortion; or she can take adequate anti-syphilis treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Because before 16 weeks of pregnancy, the nutrition of the fetus is balanced by the supply and demand of the chorion, which is composed of a double layer of cells, and Treponema pallidum is not easy to cross. After 16 weeks of pregnancy, as the trophoblast cells in the embryo gradually shrink, the balance of nutrient supply and demand for the fetus has been replaced by the embryo. At this time, Treponema pallidum can completely pass through the embryo and enter the fetus's body. Regardless of whether treatment has been received before pregnancy, in order to ensure that the syphilis Treponema pallidum in the pregnant woman's body is no longer highly pathogenic, the patient should continue to receive adequate treatment after pregnancy.

How to prevent syphilis

All abnormal patients should be subject to preventive examination and syphilis blood cell test to facilitate early detection of new patients and timely treatment; detected syphilis patients must be forced to carry out protective treatment, and the patient's clothes and utensils, such as towels, clothes, razors, kitchen utensils, quilts, etc., must be strictly disinfected under the guidance of medical staff to prevent pathogens; track the patient's sexual partners, including those reported by the patient and those visited by medical staff, search for all sexual partners of the patient, conduct preventive examination, follow up and carry out necessary treatment, and immediate family members are strictly prohibited from having sexual life before recovery; pregnant women with abnormal syphilis should be given protective treatment in time to prevent syphilis from being transmitted to the fetus; single male and female patients cannot get married before recovery.

Unlike other STDs, syphilis cannot be detected by visual inspection alone, but at least when it spreads, we can discover its presence. If you find that your body is hurt, please stop having sex temporarily. With more than 50 percent of men and women experiencing no symptoms, and some damage going undetected, so what? Using condoms is the best form of protection.
