Why does preeclampsia occur?

After pregnancy, everyone will experience pregnancy complications. If there is high blood pressure, proteinuria, and edema all over the body, there is no way to avoid the occurrence of preeclampsia, which is caused by spasm of small blood vessels throughout the body. This condition is clinically serious. If it is discovered, active surgery is required, because if eclampsia occurs, it may cause poor blood injection into the fetus, leading to fetal death or even coagulation disorder. The mother may also suffer from falls, fractures, intracranial hemorrhage and other complications due to eclampsia.

Preeclampsia refers to the occurrence of increased blood pressure and proteinuria after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and may also cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and upper abdominal discomfort. Eclampsia is a progression of preeclampsia into a more serious condition, causing seizures or coma. The cause of the disease is still unclear, but it can cause serious complications for both mothers and children. There is no reasonable treatment other than termination of pregnancy. Current treatment is to control the condition and try to increase the number of weeks of pregnancy.

Causes and common diseases of preeclampsia

The causes of preeclampsia and eclampsia are still unclear. The incidence of preeclampsia is about 5% of pregnant women, and it is more common in primiparas, pregnant women with hypertension and vascular diseases. Approximately one in 200 people with preeclampsia will develop eclampsia.

Diagnosis of preeclampsia

The symptoms of preeclampsia vary and need to be distinguished from other diseases, including: kidney disease, chronic hypertension, immune disease, liver disease, etc.

When eclampsia occurs, it needs to be distinguished from other tonic-clonic disorders, such as hysteria, hypertensive brain disease, cranial injury accident (including bleeding, venous thrombosis, rupture of abnormal blood vessels, etc.), epilepsy, brain tumors, genetic metabolic diseases (hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia), cerebral white matter lesions, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular inflammation, etc.

Preeclampsia test

It is necessary to conduct assessments of the relevant conditions of pregnant women and fetuses, including: full physical examination, liver and kidney function, routine blood and urine tests, coagulation function indicators, and assessment of the fetal intrauterine condition. If necessary, the following examinations may be performed: head CT, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, etc.

Standards of care for preeclampsia

The treatment standards for preeclampsia are: antispasmodics, lowering blood pressure, sedation, dilation when necessary, and facilitating urination. And it is necessary to terminate the pregnancy immediately based on the number of weeks of pregnancy, the severity of the disease, the response to treatment, etc. Once eclampsia occurs, the pregnancy should be terminated as soon as possible after the condition is under control.
