Why is pregnancy stable at 9 weeks?

After going through the first three months of anxiety and the high risk of miscarriage of the fetus, the pregnant mother can finally breathe a sigh of relief when entering the second trimester of pregnancy. What should you pay attention to during the second trimester of pregnancy? How does the baby develop during the second trimester of pregnancy? How long does it take for the fetus to stabilize? Why did the pregnancy stabilize at 9 weeks?

Why is the pregnancy stable at 9 weeks?

When a pregnant woman enters the second trimester (13 to 37 weeks of pregnancy), a series of changes will occur in her body. On the one hand, the weight of pregnant women increases rapidly. Pregnant women will gain 12-14kg during pregnancy, 60% or even more of which is gained in the second trimester. The amount of fat stored in the pregnant woman's body is also increasing rapidly. On the other hand, the second trimester is also a period of rapid growth and development of the fetus. In addition to rapid weight gain, some tissues and organs of the fetus must continue to divide. Those that have already divided need to improve their functions while growing in shape, especially the development of the nervous system.

The brain weight of the fetus continues to increase during the second trimester of pregnancy, mainly due to the rapid increase in the content of unsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol in the brain, that is, the myelination of neuronal cells, which in turn plays a role in the functional growth and development of the brain. Therefore, the fetus in the second trimester of pregnancy is still in a critical stage. During the entire pregnancy period, expectant mothers cannot ignore the necessity of prenatal check-ups. It is best for expectant mothers to choose a regular hospital from the beginning and have regular prenatal checkups.

In the second half of pregnancy, expectant mothers usually have a prenatal check-up every four weeks, and the actual frequency depends on the doctor's regulations. If there are any abnormalities, the doctor will require the expectant mother to have a prenatal check-up every half a month. In addition to basic weight measurement and fetal heart rate monitoring, there are three more important inspection items that cannot be ignored.

One is Down syndrome screening. It is a must-do checkup for expectant mothers in the second trimester of pregnancy. Through blood tests, the concentrations of alpha-fetoprotein, human gonadotropin and free estriol in the blood cells of pregnant women can be tested. These are key indicators for determining whether the fetus suffers from congenital idiocy or neural tube defects.

The second is to use B-ultrasound to screen for malformed fetuses. This is also an examination item that needs attention in the second trimester of pregnancy. The fetus grows and develops rapidly in the second trimester of pregnancy. Ultrasound examination can be used to detect the growth and development of the fetus, such as whether the facial features and spine are growing and developing normally. The third is glucose tolerance screening. It is used to observe whether the expectant mother has gestational diabetes, especially if the expectant mother has a family history of diabetes or obesity, she should pay more attention to sugar screening.
