What does low antithrombin mean?

Antithrombin 3 is a very important anticoagulant protein in the human body. If the level of antithrombin 3 is slightly low, the anticoagulant function of the blood will be weakened. In severe cases, it can easily cause myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, pregnancy, etc. One reason for slightly low antithrombin 3 is genetic inheritance. What are the consequences of slightly low antithrombin 3? Next, I will share my views with you.

What are the effects of slightly lower antithrombin 3?

Hereditary ATⅢ deficiency is an autosomal dominant genetic disease with an incidence of about 1/5000. It mostly occurs in people aged 10-25 years. Patients often suffer from venous thrombosis after surgery, trauma, infection, pregnancy or childbirth, and may suffer from recurrent venous thrombosis. The activity and antigenicity of ATⅢ in the blood of CRM-patients are about 50% of that of normal people. There are many types of abnormalities in the structure and function of ATⅢ in CRM, the main manifestation of which is a reduced ability to infect heparin and a significantly weakened ability to eliminate serine trypsin.

Reduced ATⅢ production is common in hepatobiliary diseases, impaired liver function tests, and is mainly common in cirrhosis, severe hepatitis, and advanced liver cancer. It is often related to the severity of the disease and may be accompanied by thrombosis. Loss and increase of ATⅢ: common in nephrotic syndrome.

If thrombin activity is very low, it is possible that bleeding will be difficult to relieve during delivery. Its function is similar to that of platelets, both of which make blood coagulate and thus relieve bleeding. However, high values can cause venous thrombosis. If the antithrombin 3 level is slightly low, it will have an impact on both the pregnant woman and the fetus.
