How to determine whether the uterus is anterior or posterior

How to determine whether the uterus is anterior or posterior

To distinguish whether the uterus is anterior or posterior, a gynecological examination can be performed, using bimanual or trimanual examination to distinguish. The position of the uterus is generally extended or slightly flexed. If the uterine body housing faces the metatarsal bone, it is called extended, which is anterior uterus. If the uterine body housing faces the sacrum, it is called retroverted, which is posterior uterus. In addition, when doing gynecological transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound, it is also possible to distinguish whether the uterus is anterior or posterior. If the patient has a retroverted uterus, the pillow can be used to lift the sperm to the cervix more effectively after intercourse.

There are usually no significant indicators for distinguishing between anterior and posterior uterus. Most women with anterior uterus cannot hold urine for a long time, which means that the frequency of urination is higher than that of women with posterior uterus. Women with a retroverted uterus often experience soreness, discomfort, and even pain in the lumbar region during menstruation. The uterus of a normal woman is in an anterior extension and flexion position. In normal clinical symptoms, most women have no obvious clinical symptoms, whether the uterus is anterior or posterior. However, when there are symptoms, such as acute pelvic inflammation, women with anterior uterus mainly experience lower abdominal pain and a feeling of heaviness, while women with posterior uterus mainly experience pain in the lumbar and sacral area and a feeling of heaviness.

Women can determine whether their uterus is anterior or posterior by undergoing a gynecological physical examination or a gynecological B-ultrasound examination. Anteroposterior and posterior uterus are both normal positions of the uterus and will not cause discomfort to most women. However, most women will change their original anterior uterus to posterior uterus after giving birth because they lie flat for a long time. Both anterior and posterior uterus will affect normal pregnancy. For example, the chance of pregnancy will be reduced in an extremely posteriorly tilted and posteriorly bent uterus.

Whether the uterus is anterior or posterior can be determined in two ways: First, through routine physical examination by a gynecologist, the position of the uterus can be understood through palpation. Second, through B-ultrasound examination, the position of the uterus can be seen under B-ultrasound observation. The position of the female uterus can be roughly divided into three types: anterior, parallel and posterior. The normal position of the uterus is the anterior extension and flexion position. The uterus maintains a normal position because the cruciate ligaments around the uterus are stretched. If the patient's cruciate ligaments have problems, the uterus may not be in the anterior extension and flexion position. In clinical medicine, for patients seeking medical treatment, it is very common that the position of the uterus is not the normal forward extension and flexion position, and patients do not need to be too anxious. Whether the uterus is anterior or posterior is mainly determined by the above two methods, based on examination by obstetricians and gynecologists and B-ultrasound.
