Will hyperthyroidism affect the baby's IQ?

Hyperthyroidism (Hyperthyroidism) refers to a clinical syndrome caused by excessive secretion of thyroid hormones, often accompanied by manifestations such as thyroid nodules, bulging eyes and increased basal metabolism. Hyperthyroidism in children is mainly caused by localized goiter (Graves' disease).

Can you get pregnant with hyperthyroidism? Mild hyperthyroidism has no effect on pregnancy, but the miscarriage rate, infertility rate, premature birth rate and fetal mortality rate of mild to moderate hyperthyroidism are much higher than those of non-hyperthyroid patients.

During pregnancy, patients with hyperthyroidism need to pay attention to the following:

1. See a doctor regularly for check-ups to clearly understand the growth rate and development status of the fetus in the uterus to avoid pregnancy-induced hypertension.

2. Patients with mild hyperthyroidism generally do not need anti-thyroid cystic drug treatment during pregnancy, because the drugs will affect the fetal thyroid hormone through the embryo; patients with moderate to severe hyperthyroidism need to continue anti-thyroid cystic treatment, but the dosage must be strictly controlled, and the dosage should be gradually reduced in the late pregnancy.

3. Thyroid cyst removal should not be performed during pregnancy as it can easily cause miscarriage or premature birth.

4. After delivery, the chance of hyperthyroidism recurring is very high, and you can take appropriate medication to treat the thyroid gland; if the condition worsens, you cannot breastfeed, because the drug will be absorbed by the baby through breast milk.

5. After delivery, the baby should be tested for thyroid hormones at all levels.
