Is it normal for a girl to have her period at the age of 10?

If a girl has her first period at the age of 10, it is abnormal and may be precocious puberty. This is a very critical situation and the cause of the disease must be found out as soon as possible. After all, girls will have their first period at least at the age of 12. Early menstruation can cause great harm to a girl's body and may also cause other bleeding problems. Targeted treatment can only be done after the cause is found out.

Menarche, also known as menstruation, refers to the first menstrual period. It represents the changes that a girl's body undergoes during puberty. Before the onset of menarche, a girl's breasts have begun to develop, her height has suddenly increased, and some have already grown pubic hair or underarm hair. Menarche usually occurs two years after the breasts begin to develop. A girl’s first menstruation is one of the important signs of the onset of puberty. Menarche means that the endometrium has developed due to the stimulation of estrogen, and it also means that the "pathway" from the uterus to the cervix to the vagina has opened. Most girls have their first period between the ages of 12 and 16. Generally speaking, menarche is often anovulatory menstruation, and ovulation occurs several months to a year after menarche.

In rare cases, menarche occurs very early, before breast development and other pubertal development. This symptom is called premature menarche. Other possible causes of bleeding must be ruled out before diagnosing this symptom.

If menarche does not occur more than three years after breast development, it is called primary amenorrhea. About 30% of primary amenorrhea is related to genetic abnormalities, resulting in poor gonadal function or incomplete development of reproductive organs. Anatomically, the closure of the hymen causes amenorrhea.

Some women have their first menstruation at age eighteen, but it is generally believed that if you have not had your first menstruation by age sixteen, you should consult a doctor. The cause of late menstruation may be being underweight or overweight. Both of these reasons are due to the low and high proportion of body fat, which affects the normal physiological function of the ovaries and causes late menstruation. In addition, the normal function of the pituitary gland that controls endocrine system, tumors in reproductive-related glands, medication, mental stress, etc. will all affect the timing of the first menstruation.

Menarche is considered by most women to be an important "milestone" in puberty.
