Why do I have breast pain before my period?

Many women have some body signals before menstruation. For example, some women will experience chest pain. These symptoms may occur before and after menstruation, but the specific manifestations of chest pain before menstruation and chest pain at other times are different. Generally, you don’t need to worry too much about breast pain caused by premenstrual period, as long as you pay attention to menstrual care. So what causes breast pain before period?

1. The breast is actually one of the target organs of hormones in the body. That is to say, whether it is estrogen or progesterone, it can act on the receptors on the breast, thereby stimulating the breast to a certain extent. When the hormone level fluctuates significantly, such as before and after ovulation, before and after menstruation, the stimulation to the breast will fluctuate significantly. Therefore, many people will have certain breast discomfort during this period, and swelling and pain are the most common manifestations. In fact, as long as it has a clear pattern, there should not be too much of a problem. However, women often have breast problems, such as breast hyperplasia, which are more likely to cause this type of symptoms, so it is best to go to the hospital for some examinations to see if there are some problems with the breast itself.

2. Chest pain before menstruation may be caused by liver depression and qi stagnation or stomach deficiency and phlegm stagnation. Long-term mental distress, long-term illness, or a history of pelvic inflammatory disease or its sequelae can also lead to breast pain before menstruation. Routine gynecological physical examination, infrared breast examination, and color ultrasound can be performed to determine whether there are any lumps and to exclude organic diseases such as breast hyperplasia. If there are related diseases, attention should be paid to treating the cause and taking oral medications. If there is a lump, you can take some Chinese medicine to soften and disperse the lump orally.

3. Because the estrogen level in the body is relatively high before menstruation, it will promote breast hyperplasia, leading to varying degrees of edema in the breast tissue, which in turn causes swelling and pain. It usually disappears after the menstrual period is over. However, if the pain is particularly severe, the possibility of breast fibroids or breast malignancy should be ruled out. If necessary, you need to go to the hospital's breast specialist for a breast color ultrasound. Pay attention to rest, keep a good mood and get enough sleep.
