Normal value of uterine fundus height after delivery

Normal value of uterine fundus height after delivery

A woman's uterus will automatically begin to contract after giving birth. The normal height of the uterine fundus after delivery is four horizontal fingers above the pubic symphysis 3 days after delivery, 2 to 3 horizontal fingers above the pubic symphysis 7 days after delivery, the abdomen cannot be felt on the 28th day, and it returns to normal on the 42nd day. One month after giving birth, you should go to the hospital for a check-up to check the recovery of the uterus and the amount of bleeding. Some mothers may have a high uterine fundus after giving birth. This may be because the pregnant mother herself has a high uterine fundus, and secondly, it has a certain relationship with the weight of the child.

After the placenta is expelled, the uterus begins to contract immediately, and the height of the uterus will drop by 1-2 cm every day. Within 10-14 days after delivery, the uterus shrinks and falls into the pelvic cavity. The umbilical cord is about 7-10 cm in 7 days and basically reaches the pelvis in about 2 weeks. You will be back to normal in a month or two. Everyone's body recovers differently. It is recommended to go to the hospital one month after delivery to check your physical recovery.

In order to make the uterus contract as much as possible after delivery, the doctor will press on the mother after delivery, which is usually called uterine massage. At this time, no matter how uncomfortable the body is, the mother must actively cooperate with the doctor and carefully complete each uterine compression.

In addition, effective sucking by the baby also has a very good effect on stimulating the uterus to produce contraction hormone. Therefore, mothers who insist on breastfeeding should pay attention to letting the baby suck more milk, which can also help the body recover faster after delivery.

Mothers who bottle-feed can stimulate the uterus to secrete contraction hormone by applying hot compresses and massaging the breasts. Be careful not to do strenuous exercise after delivery, as this will affect the recovery of the uterus and is not conducive to physical recovery.

What is the reason for the height of the uterus in pregnant women

The mother's uterine height and abdominal circumference have a certain relationship with the growth and development of the fetus and the weight of the fetus. Doctors usually use the mother's uterine height curve to judge whether the fetus is slow in development or a macrosomic baby. The height of the pregnant woman's uterus may be due to the fact that the fetal presenting part has already entered the pelvis, or it may be related to the state of the uterus when the uterine height is measured. Of course, measurement errors may also occur.

Basically, pregnant women need to measure their uterine height and abdominal circumference during prenatal check-ups at 20 weeks of pregnancy in order to determine the birth weight of the fetus.

What to do if the pregnant woman's uterus is high or low

If it is due to measurement errors, you can correct the measurement method and time. Before checking the uterine height, the pregnant woman must empty her bladder, lie flat on the bed, and use a soft tape measure to measure the distance from the midpoint of the upper edge of the pubic symphysis to the fundus of the uterus along the midline of the abdomen. When measuring, try to keep the lower part of the tape measure close to your body, but remember not to tighten your abdomen. Starting from the 20th week of pregnancy, it should be measured once every 4 weeks; from the 28th to 35th week of pregnancy, it should be measured once every 2 weeks; after the 36th week of pregnancy, it should be measured once a week.

Generally speaking, the height of the pregnant woman's uterus will not affect the development of the fetus. As long as the uterine height and abdominal circumference increase, a slightly lower uterine height data can be considered within the normal range. In life, pregnant women should pay attention to their daily intake of meat, eggs, fish and milk, and gain weight between 0.3kg and 0.5kg per week, which will facilitate normal delivery.
