Retrograde nosebleed

Retrograde nosebleed

Menstruation is the phenomenon of periodic vaginal bleeding regulated by the endocrine system. Some people will experience bleeding in the nose and breast area during menstruation. This is a manifestation of retrograde menstruation. It usually does not last long. If it occurs repeatedly, it may cause menstrual disorders and anemia. Not all women will experience retrograde menstruation. What causes retrograde nosebleeds?

Some girls often have nosebleeds during menstruation, which is commonly known as retrograde menstruation. Medically known as compensatory menstruation, it is characterized by a small amount of bleeding from the nose and mouth in addition to vaginal bleeding, which lasts for varying numbers of days, often occurring one to two days before menstruation or during menstruation, and has a cyclical regularity.

According to clinical observations, epistaxis is the most common cause of menstruation. The reasons are:

First, there is an area rich in blood vessels and fragile in the front and lower part of the nasal septum. This area is more sensitive to estrogen. During menstruation, the estrogen level in girls increases. Under the stimulation of the increased estrogen, the nasal mucosa in this area will experience hyperplasia of blood vessels, swelling and congestion, and finally rupture and bleeding.

Second, the lesions of endometriosis are in the nasal mucosa.

Why do you have nosebleeds or vomit blood during "reverse menstruation"?

Modern medicine believes that there is a physiological connection between the nasal mucosa and the female reproductive organs. Certain specific areas of the nasal mucosa are more sensitive to ovarian estrogen and may bleed.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is due to

1. Caused by blood heat and qi reversal, usually with an impatient temperament and prone to sulking, resulting in liver qi discomfort and excessive liver fire;

2. If you usually like to eat spicy food, you may experience retrograde menstruation and nose bleeding or vomiting blood.

One or two days before your period, keep your emotions stable and in a good mood, eat more vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water, and avoid pinching your nose hard to effectively prevent retrograde menstruation. Generally speaking, the amount of retrograde bleeding will not be too much and will not have much impact on your health. There is no need to be afraid. Mild cases may not require treatment because it does not necessarily appear all the time and sometimes it can disappear on its own without treatment. If the amount of bleeding is large, you can go to the ENT department of the hospital for examination.
