What does a positive BV test mean?

For the sake of their own health, it is best for women to have regular gynecological examinations, because the examination process can not only help us treat diseases but also predict in advance whether we have any diseases. Some women find that their BV test is positive during gynecological examinations. What does this mean?

BV refers to a clinical syndrome characterized by a decrease in the number of normal genital tract flora (H202-producing Lactobacillus) and an increase in the number of anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroides, Gardnerella, Mobilunella, Mycoplasma hominis and Streptococcus, etc.). It is called bacterial because there is an obvious abnormal growth of large amounts of anaerobic bacteria; it is called vaginosis because there is an increase in vaginal secretions, but there is no inflammatory response seen in clinical vaginitis, and there is no local increase in white blood cells. The study of BV has a history of more than a century. In the past, due to limited understanding of it, various articles reported many names, such as "nonspecific vaginitis, vaginal Gardnerella vaginitis, vaginal Haemophilus influenzae vaginitis", etc.

Until now, many domestic clinicians still call this type of patients "nonspecific vaginitis". In order to achieve a unified name, the 1984 Swedish International Academic Conference officially named it "Bacterial Vaginosis".

A positive BV result in a gynecological examination means that this is just an examination indicator of our body. If we are not professionals, we cannot see it. But we can’t use the fact that we don’t know as an excuse for not caring about ourselves. We have to care about ourselves no matter what.
