Is it okay for women to do vaginal ultrasound?

Vaginal ultrasound is actually what is commonly referred to as vaginal B-ultrasound in clinical practice. It is included in many gynecological disease examination items, but because each person's physical condition is different, different reactions may occur after vaginal B-ultrasound. Some patients may experience discomfort during the examination, so they should try their best to cooperate with the doctor. So is vaginal B-ultrasound good?

1. Vaginal ultrasound is the abbreviation of vaginal B-ultrasound, also known as intracavitary B-ultrasound. It is a method of ultrasonic diagnosis by inserting the B-ultrasound probe into the vagina or rectum. It is particularly suitable for observing pelvic organs in the small pelvis. Compared with abdominal B-ultrasound, vaginal ultrasound images are clearer and more realistic, the results are more accurate, and the person being examined does not have to "hold urine". Vaginal ultrasound is particularly suitable for ovulation monitoring, diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, uterine space-occupying diseases, and diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome and chocolate cysts. For those who have had sexual intercourse, a vaginal examination can be performed, and for virgins, a rectal ultrasound examination can be performed.

2. Ultrasound examination is required in early pregnancy to confirm intrauterine pregnancy and check for the presence of embryo or heartbeat. Compared with abdominal B-ultrasound, vaginal B-ultrasound is more accurate and can clarify the intrauterine situation one week earlier than abdominal B-ultrasound. Because the embryo is implanted in the uterine cavity, B-ultrasound through the vagina will not have any effect on the embryo. Therefore, vaginal B-ultrasound is usually performed in the early stages of pregnancy, unless there are special circumstances that prevent it, in which case abdominal B-ultrasound can be performed.

3. In the early stages of pregnancy, if the condition cannot be seen through the abdomen, vaginal ultrasound can be used. A probe the size of a fingernail is gently inserted into the vagina about 4-5 cm. This does not increase the risk of miscarriage, and the frequency of vaginal ultrasound probes is significantly higher than that of abdominal ultrasound probes, and the image is clearer, especially for pregnant women with thick abdominal wall fat; vaginal ultrasound is closer to pelvic organs, which improves the diagnosis rate and makes it clear whether it is an intrauterine or ectopic pregnancy; vaginal ultrasound can detect the yolk sac and germ about a week earlier than abdominal ultrasound, which can verify the gestational age and judge the development of the embryo as early as possible; vaginal ultrasound does not require filling the bladder, which reduces the pain of holding urine and saves time for pregnant women.
