What is the reason for the decrease in progesterone?

For pregnant women, regular prenatal check-ups are very necessary. Prenatal examinations can effectively observe whether the various basic indicators of the pregnant woman's body are at normal levels. At the same time, this also directly reflects whether the fetus in the pregnant woman's belly is in a healthy state. Progesterone is also a very important indicator in pregnant women's bodies, but what happens if a pregnant woman's progesterone level keeps dropping?

Why does progesterone decrease in pregnant women: In the early stages of pregnancy, the progesterone level should remain elevated, but when a pregnant woman has symptoms of miscarriage, the progesterone level will decrease.

Symptoms of threatened abortion: vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain. The amount of bleeding in threatened abortion is generally small, often dark red, or bloody leucorrhea, and can last from 4-5 days to more than a week. Vaginal bleeding may be accompanied by mild lower abdominal pain or back pain.

Reminder: If a pregnant mother encounters this situation, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, she must seek medical attention in time and receive treatment to preserve the fetus. However, when the pregnant woman's progesterone level is lower than 15ng/ml and there is no fetal heartbeat or fetal bud, she should give up trying to preserve the pregnancy.

What causes a decrease in progesterone in pregnant women: Ectopic pregnancy A decrease in progesterone in pregnant women may also be caused by ectopic pregnancy, and blood HCG tests and B-ultrasound examinations should be performed to further confirm the diagnosis.

How much progesterone indicates an ectopic pregnancy: Clinically, it is believed that when the progesterone value in early pregnancy is higher than 20ng/ml, ectopic pregnancy can be ruled out. However, when the progesterone value is lower than 10ng/ml, it is very likely an ectopic pregnancy and further examination and confirmation are required.

Reminder: In the early stages of pregnancy, the progesterone level continues to rise. If the current progesterone level is lower than the previous one and is lower than 10ng/ml, and you have not yet confirmed whether it is a normal pregnancy, it is very likely to be an ectopic pregnancy.
