From the perspective of clinical research, in addition to abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea can also cause pain that radiates to the thighs, perineum, anus, etc. Clinically, it is common to see some people who, during menstruation, do not have abdominal pain but often feel a dull pain in the perineum. Please do not doubt that this may be a symptom of dysmenorrhea. If you do not know this, you may exclude yourself from dysmenorrhea patients, which may delay the treatment of the disease.

2. Causes of dysmenorrhea

Most dysmenorrhea occurs during menstruation, and for some people it occurs a few days before menstruation. The abdominal pain worsens after menstruation, but everything is normal after menstruation. The characteristics of abdominal pain are closely related to menstruation. Abdominal pain will not occur if menstruation does not come. Therefore, abdominal pain that is not related to menstruation is not dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea can be divided into primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea refers to abdominal pain that occurs from the beginning of menstruation, while secondary dysmenorrhea refers to abdominal pain during menstruation that occurs several years or even more than ten years after menstruation. The causes of the two types of dysmenorrhea are different. The causes of primary dysmenorrhea are a narrow uterine opening, uterine hypoplasia, or large pieces of endometrium in the menstrual blood. The latter condition is called membranous dysmenorrhea. Sometimes menstrual blood contains blood clots, which can also cause lower abdominal pain. The causes of secondary dysmenorrhea are mostly caused by diseases, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic congestion, etc. In recent years, it has been discovered that increased synthesis of prostaglandins in the endometrium can also cause dysmenorrhea.

3. Dietary adjustment for dysmenorrhea

Patients with dysmenorrhea should eat light and easily digestible food within 3-5 days before menstruation. You should eat food that is easy to digest and absorb, and you should not eat too much. In particular, you should avoid eating raw and cold foods, because raw and cold foods can stimulate the contraction of the uterus and fallopian tubes, thereby inducing or aggravating dysmenorrhea. Once menstruation has started, you should avoid all raw, cold, indigestible and irritating foods, such as chili peppers, raw onions, raw garlic, pepper, strong liquor, etc. During this period, patients can eat some sour foods, such as sauerkraut, vinegar, etc. Sour foods can relieve pain. In addition, people with dysmenorrhea should keep their bowel movements regular, whether before or after menstruation. Eat more honey, bananas, celery, sweet potatoes, etc. as much as possible. Constipation can induce dysmenorrhea and increase pain. Some people believe that if patients with dysmenorrhea drink a moderate amount of alcohol, it can promote blood circulation, dilate blood vessels, relax smooth muscles, and play a role in the prevention and treatment of dysmenorrhea. If the amount of menstrual blood is not much, you can drink some wine in moderation, which can relieve symptoms and even play a therapeutic role to a certain extent.
