Episiotomy scar repair

Episiotomy scar repair

If a woman encounters difficulties during childbirth, she will often use episiotomy to speed up the birth of the baby. However, many first-time mothers have difficulty giving birth because the vaginal opening is not very elastic and the baby's head circumference is wide. Doctors often choose episiotomy, which inevitably leaves scars. During the episiotomy scar repair process, you must pay attention to eating more high-fiber foods and pay more attention to the cleanliness of the wound.

Methods for recovering from episiotomy wounds during normal delivery

1. Eat more high-fiber foods, develop regular bowel habits, drink more water, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, drink more fish soup and pig's trotter soup, do not eat too much meat, spicy and stimulating foods, and foods that are difficult to digest to avoid constipation.

2. Change sanitary napkins frequently to keep the vulva clean, avoid wound infection, and prevent lochia from soaking the wound. Remember to disinfect the wound every day. It is best to wipe the vulva from front to back with disinfectant cotton at night after urination and defecation.

3. Get out of bed early after delivery, and be careful not to squat forcefully within a few days after the stitches are removed; within one month after delivery, new mothers should not lift heavy objects or do any strenuous housework or exercise.

4. Sexual intercourse is prohibited within six weeks after episiotomy during normal delivery. This is very important, you must hold back.

5. When edema occurs in the wound, the sutures are very tight before they are removed and the pain will continue. At this time, you can use 95% alcohol gauze or 50% magnesium sulfate gauze for local moist hot compresses, twice a day. When applying hot compress, raise your buttocks a little to facilitate the return of body fluids.

6. When a new mother is lying on her left side, her center of gravity should be tilted to the right as much as possible, and she should sleep in the right side decubitus position. This can reduce the pain caused by pressure on the wound and prevent epidermal dislocation. It is beneficial for wound recovery.

Several suggestions to help episiotomy wounds recover from vaginal delivery

1. It is recommended to take more walks, climb stairs and practice breathing techniques, which can strengthen muscle strength, help delivery, and effectively avoid episiotomy. Around 32 weeks of pregnancy, expectant mothers can perform perineal massage and exercises every day to increase the flexibility and elasticity of muscle tissue.

2. Whether it is a natural tear or an episiotomy, it will generally heal in 3-5 days, but this does not mean it is completely healed. So don’t do heavy work carelessly just because the wound seems to have healed.

3. The skin outside the episiotomy wound is sutured with silk thread. The incision will generally heal in five or six days and the stitches will be removed. The wound inside the vagina is sutured with catgut, which will be quickly absorbed by the body and will not remain in the vagina, so it does not need to be removed.

In general, the speed at which the episiotomy wound recovers during normal delivery has a lot to do with your care. If you pay more attention to daily care, your recovery will naturally be faster. In addition, the wound recovery time varies from person to person. Some mothers recover in two months, while others recover in three months. This is normal.
