Blisters around breasts during lactation

The healthy nutritional level of breast milk of lactating women is closely related to their own physical health. When the mother's physical condition is very poor, the quality of the milk will also become very poor. This kind of milk will not only fail to supplement nutrition for the baby, but will also affect the baby's physical health and even threaten the baby's life. If blisters appear on the breasts during lactation, you should be careful to avoid feeding the baby. Let's learn about the causes of blisters during lactation.

Why do blisters on nipples hurt during breastfeeding?

It is probably a case of nipple fissures. When nipple fissures occur, milk discharge is not smooth and the mammary ducts are blocked, which will manifest as breast lumps and tenderness. In severe cases, mastitis may occur and the nursing mother may experience fever, hard and swollen breasts and other symptoms. The main treatment method is to breastfeed frequently to help empty the breasts. Apply warm compress to the breasts before feeding, massage towards the nipples while feeding, and avoid wearing tight clothes. Antibiotics may be used if the infection is severe.

Ways to relieve nipple pain during breastfeeding

1. When breastfeeding, you should start with the breast that is less painful to reduce the sucking force on the other breast, and let the nipple and part of the areola be sucked in the baby's mouth to prevent the nipple skin from becoming more chapped.

2. Alternate the position of the baby during breastfeeding so that the sucking force is dispersed around the nipple and areola.

3. Breastfeed frequently to facilitate milk emptying and soften the areola, which is easier for the baby to suck.

4. After breastfeeding, squeeze out a small amount of milk and apply it on the nipples and areola. Expose and dry the nipples briefly, preferably near a window in sunlight. Because breast milk has antibacterial effects and is rich in protein, it is beneficial to the healing of nipple skin. After breastfeeding, you can also apply a thin layer of water-based lanolin on the nipples. It is harmless to the baby and does not need to be wiped off before breastfeeding.

5. Wear loose underwear and bras after breastfeeding, and put the nipple shield in the right place to facilitate air circulation and healing of skin lesions.
