Is urine leakage normal during pregnancy?

In fact, every pregnant woman will face various uncertain risk factors during pregnancy, as well as changes in the body caused by hormones. Among them, urinary incontinence during pregnancy is also something that many pregnant women will face, because during pregnancy, as the pregnant woman's uterus gradually grows, it will compress the bladder and other urinary systems. But some pregnant women may worry at this time, is it normal to have urinary incontinence during pregnancy?

Many expectant mothers are reluctant to go out after they become pregnant because they always find themselves inadvertently suffering from urinary inconvenience, which is extremely inconvenient and embarrassing. So do pregnant mothers know why it is easy to leak urine after pregnancy? Is this a normal phenomenon? More than 90% of pregnant women experience frequent urination during pregnancy, and 40% often have urine leakage. This is a common problem among pregnant women, so there is no need to panic.

After pregnancy, as the weight and volume of the uterus continue to increase and the position of the uterus in the pelvic cavity gradually becomes vertical, greater force acts directly on the pelvic floor support structure. As the uterus grows, the right-rotated uterus compresses the right iliac vein, causing blood reflux obstruction, resulting in ischemia and hypoxia of the pelvic floor tissue, decreased muscle tone, and even tearing. In addition, as the uterus continues to grow during pregnancy, the pelvic floor muscles overstretch and exceed the stretching limit of the nerve fibers, causing loss of nerve innervation. In the early stages of pregnancy, the bladder is compressed by the enlarged uterus, and symptoms of frequent urination may occur; in the second trimester, the frequent urination phenomenon will temporarily decrease because the rising uterus no longer compresses the bladder; and in the late pregnancy, frequent urination will worsen again due to decreased pelvic muscle tension and contraction and pressure on the bladder by the fetus. When the expectant mother laughs, coughs, sneezes or runs, the pressure in the abdominal cavity and around the bladder increases, and this pressure will squeeze the expectant mother's bladder. Often, a pregnant woman's pelvic floor muscles become weak, causing her to lose control of her urine.

In fact, this situation is normal. During late pregnancy, urine may leak when you run, laugh, cough, or sneeze because of weak pelvic floor muscles and pressure on the bladder from the growing baby. During the second trimester, the urge to urinate will temporarily decrease as the uterus rises and no longer compresses the bladder. Towards the end of pregnancy, the urge to urinate increases again because the head of the fetus descends into the pelvis and presses on the bladder.

However, urinary incontinence is at most embarrassing for the pregnant mother herself. If water breaking is mistaken for urinary incontinence, it is very likely to have adverse effects on the fetus. Some expectant mothers can't tell whether it is "urine leakage" or "water breaking"?

In this regard, experts teach four tips to distinguish: 1. The color of amniotic fluid is colorless and transparent, and occasionally mixes with a small amount of blood to become light pink. 2. Urine smells like ammonia, but amniotic fluid has no odor. 3. Urine leakage usually occurs in small amounts, whereas amniotic fluid flows out from the vagina in large amounts, and can vary in amount over time. 4. Pregnant mothers can try to contract the vagina or press hard near the anus. What can be stopped is urine, and what cannot be stopped is amniotic fluid.
