Why does pregnancy cause nausea?

Many pregnant women are very confused about the symptoms of nausea and vomiting that they often experience in the early stages of pregnancy. This makes them unable to eat and their appetite becomes very poor. In fact, most pregnant women will experience these symptoms in the early stages. After they occur, pregnant women will not only feel nauseous, but also experience vomiting, frequent urination and breast tenderness. These should all be treated as soon as possible.

Why does pregnancy cause nausea?

First trimester (first three months of pregnancy)

Vomiting and nausea

It may be due to changes in the concentration of certain hormones in the body during pregnancy, or it may be due to changes in carbohydrate metabolism during pregnancy. When you are hungry, your blood sugar level drops and you are prone to nausea. This feeling starts after your period stops and may take 3 to 4 months to disappear. To deal with it, eat toast or soda crackers in bed before getting up, eat small meals frequently, and eat a light diet.

Frequent urination and urgency

This is caused by the uterus compressing the bladder in the early stages of pregnancy. It will disappear when the uterus grows out of the pelvic cavity at 12 weeks, and will reappear after the fetal head is connected before delivery. At this time, do not relieve it by reducing water intake, but do do perineal muscle contraction exercises.

Breast tenderness

Treatment: Wear a well-fitting bra to support

Increased vaginal discharge

Due to changes in hormone concentrations in the body, the secretion of cervical glands increases, and the vaginal mucosa proliferates to produce white mucus, called leucorrhea. The treatment method is: wear absorbent cotton underwear and keep it clean and dry.

Second and third trimester

Burning sensation in the chest

It is caused by slow gastric emptying, relaxation of the cardiac sphincter, and reflux of food into the esophagus. The treatment method is: eat small meals frequently, do not lie down immediately after meals, and eat less fatty or fried foods.

Ankle edema

Obstruction of venous return causes edema of the feet and ankles. The treatment method is to avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time, do dorsiflexion exercises and raise the calves.

Varicose veins

It is easy to occur when there is excessive weight gain, overweight fetus, multiple births, and lack of venous valve function in the mother. The treatment method is to raise the calves, do not cross the legs when sitting, put on elastic pants before getting out of bed in the morning, and avoid lying on your back in the late pregnancy and lie on your right side instead.

hemorrhoid

It is caused by varicose veins on the surface of the rectum. Treatment: prevent constipation, sit in a warm water bath, and apply ice when it hurts.

constipate

If the intestinal motility slows down due to hormones in the body during pregnancy or if it is caused by oral iron supplements, the treatment method is to increase water intake, eat high-fiber foods, develop daily bowel habits and exercise appropriately. Do not develop a habit of relying on laxatives or suppositories.

Back pain

The enlarged uterus, increased lumbar curvature and relaxing hormone cause the pelvic joints to relax, resulting in anterior pelvic tilt and back bending and pain. Treatment methods: Pelvic tilt exercise - lie on your back with your knees bent and your back pressed against the floor. When standing, lean your back against the wall and contract your abdominal and gluteal muscles. Kneel with your hands on the ground, arch your back as much as possible and contract your abdominal muscles.

Calf cramps

Painful gastrocnemius spasms before going to bed are caused by uterine compression of lower limb nerves and poor blood circulation. Treatment: adopt dorsiflexion position during spasms, massage and hot compress.
