How long after giving birth can I hold my baby?

A baby is the fruit of parents' efforts and is a very happy thing for a family. Many mothers are weak after giving birth and usually need to stay in bed to rest. The baby will be placed in a position close to the mother, but it is difficult to hold the baby. After finally experiencing the pain of childbirth, when you see the baby, you want to hold it. So how long after giving birth can you hold the baby?

How long after a normal birth can you hold your baby?

Pregnant women need to stay in bed and rest for 8 hours after a normal delivery. If the delivery is normal, they can get out of bed and go to the toilet 12 hours after delivery. You can move freely within 24 hours after delivery, but avoid standing, squatting or doing heavy work for long periods of time to prevent uterine prolapse. Mothers can gradually resume normal work 8 weeks after a normal delivery.

However, since women are physically weak after giving birth, they should not hold the baby too early. It is best to hold the baby after a full month of confinement. As for taking your baby out for a walk, shopping, etc., it is best to do so two months after delivery. In short, mothers should not hold their babies too early, otherwise they may suffer from arm pain as a sequelae.

What are the precautions after giving birth?

1. Environment

The living environment for the mother should be quiet, comfortable, with plenty of sunlight, and the room should be ventilated regularly (but convection wind should be avoided) to ensure fresh air and provide sufficient oxygen for mother and baby. Fresh air can eliminate the fatigue of the mother and help the body recover.

2. Cleanliness and hygiene

Personal hygiene of the parturient is very important. She should take a bath and change underwear frequently to ensure her skin is clean and dry. If she has had an episiotomy and the stitches have not been removed, she should scrub the vulva once a day, rinse her mouth after meals, brush her teeth on time, and pay attention to oral hygiene.

Whether it is a natural birth or other method of childbirth, it will cause considerable harm to the woman's body. Moreover, from the day of pregnancy until the successful delivery, women bear enormous psychological pressure. After a successful delivery, the first priority is to slowly adjust your body and mind, allowing your body to recover before taking good care of your baby.
