Temperature drop in early pregnancy

Temperature drop in early pregnancy

Most women will experience some changes in their bodies after becoming pregnant, among which the change in body temperature is the most obvious. After becoming pregnant, the body temperature of most people is usually slightly higher than that of normal people. In fact, this is a normal phenomenon, and you don’t have to worry too much. However, some women experience a drop in body temperature in the early stages of pregnancy. What is going on when this happens?

What causes a drop in body temperature during early pregnancy?

Under normal circumstances, a woman's body temperature will rise to about 37.5℃-38℃ at the beginning of pregnancy. This is because progesterone has a warming effect. From the 13th week of pregnancy, it will return to normal. But if you have a fever and feel uncomfortable, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up. If you are pregnant, your basal body temperature will not drop and will remain at a high temperature. The body temperature remains high because the amount of hormones secreted by the ovaries increases after pregnancy. However, women with poor ovarian function or fever caused by a cold will affect the basal body temperature curve, so the accuracy is not 100%. If the basal body temperature rises, the menstruation is not due. If the basal body temperature continues to remain high for as long as 16 days, the possibility of conception is greater. However, other factors that may cause increased basal body temperature in early pregnancy, such as systemic infectious diseases, need to be ruled out.

In the early stages of pregnancy, the basal body temperature curve gradually decreases, indicating luteal insufficiency or placental dysfunction, and a tendency to miscarriage. When the fertilized egg implants, its temperature will drop. For most people, the implantation of the fertilized egg means the first successful step towards pregnancy. Implantation cooling is based on the ability to accurately measure basal body temperature. Basal body temperature is the comparison between your low temperature and high temperature. As long as the difference between high and low temperature is more than 0.3~0.5 degrees, it is normal.

According to the basal body temperature curve, pregnant women can make several relatively correct judgments. When the temperature transitions from low temperature to high temperature, an extremely low temperature will appear. This extremely low temperature is often the ovulation day. Because when the follicle ruptures, estrogen will drop sharply, and the drop in estrogen will also affect body temperature. Once in the high-temperature zone, the life span of the corpus luteum is 14 days, so the high-temperature period will always be maintained for about 12 days. When it is found that between the 6th and 10th days after ovulation, the body temperature suddenly drops one day, and then rises significantly on the second day, this sudden low temperature is the implantation cooling. Therefore, if your body temperature drops in the early stages of pregnancy, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis in time.

In short, in the early stages of pregnancy, pregnant women will experience symptoms such as breast swelling, frequent urination, mild vaginal bleeding, and may also experience nausea, headache, dizziness, and emotional instability. If you find the above symptoms, you should take an early pregnancy test in time because you are very likely pregnant.
