How long does it take for body temperature to rise after ovulation?

During a woman's ovulation period, her basal body temperature will rise slightly, about 0.3~0.5 degrees. In addition to causing a slight increase in body temperature, there will be some other symptoms. For example, during the ovulation period, a woman's vaginal secretions will increase, and her sexual desire will increase. However, it should also be noted that the physical condition will decline at this time, so it is necessary to strengthen good conditioning.

How long does it take for body temperature to rise after ovulation?

Under normal circumstances, a woman's basal body temperature is lower before ovulation and rises after ovulation. This is because the corpus luteum formed after ovulation and the secretion of more progesterone stimulate the temperature regulation center of the hypothalamus, causing the basal body temperature to rise, which continues until the next menstrual period before it begins to drop. The basal body temperature of the next menstrual cycle repeats the above changes. If the basal body temperature measured daily is recorded on a temperature record sheet and connected into a curve, it can be seen that the body temperature is lower in the first half of the menstruation and rises in the second half of the menstruation. This temperature curve with low temperature at the beginning and high temperature at the end is called a biphasic temperature curve.

Experts say that basal body temperature can reflect the body's energy metabolism in a resting state. The basal body temperature of women of childbearing age is related to the cyclical changes in ovarian hormones. After ovulation, the body temperature will rise by 0.3-0.5℃ until 1-2 days before menstruation or the first day of menstruation. If the basal body temperature rises but the menstruation is not due, and the basal body temperature continues to remain high for 16 days, the possibility of conception is high. If it lasts for 3 months, it is basically certain that you are pregnant, but other factors that may cause the body temperature to rise, such as systemic infectious diseases, colds, etc., need to be ruled out. If your basal body temperature remains high for more than two weeks, you should consider going to the hospital for a check-up because you may be pregnant. If it is more than 20 days, it can be confirmed as early pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy, the biphasic body temperature curve gradually decreases, indicating luteal insufficiency or placental dysfunction, and a tendency to miscarriage.

The correct way to measure basal body temperature

1. Buy a basal body thermometer. The basal thermometer is different from a general thermometer. Its scale is denser, and 36.7 degrees Celsius (24 on the scale) is generally used as the boundary between high and low temperatures. (36 degrees – scale 10; 38 degrees – scale 50).

2. Before going to bed every night, swing the mercury column on the thermometer to below 35 degrees. If it is an electronic thermometer, return it to the initial value and place it where you can reach it after waking up.

3. After 8 hours of sleep without any exercise, immediately place the thermometer under the tongue for 5 minutes, take it out, read the reading, and record it on a special form. It can also be measured under the armpit, but the armpit temperature is generally not as stable as the oral temperature. Last at least 14 days.

4. It is strictly forbidden to get up, urinate, defecate, eat, talk, etc. before measuring body temperature.

5. Record any factors that may affect basal body temperature, such as colds, insomnia, drinking, medication, emotions, etc. If you have a cold, fever, diarrhea, insomnia, drink alcohol, use an electric blanket, go to bed late and get up late, etc., it is easy to affect the basal body temperature. Be careful when measuring it and make sure to mark it specially.

6. Menstruation and sexual intercourse days must be marked with additional signs. In case of fever, excessive drinking, late sleep and late rise, etc., which can affect body temperature, special notes should also be made.

7. Record the measurement results on the basal body temperature chart. In addition to recording on paper, it is best to record them on a special basal body temperature management tool, which can more conveniently and intuitively view the basal body temperature curve and clearly see the low and high temperature periods.
