Is it normal to have spotting during 4 months of pregnancy?

Mothers during early pregnancy have more or less experienced bleeding, but there will be different changes in different periods. For example, some mothers suddenly find a little bleeding in the process of urination when going to the toilet. It depends on whether there is abdominal pain or uterine contraction recently. If the bleeding has continued for a while, you should go to the hospital for examination to find out the cause.

What to do if you have vaginal bleeding

1. Bleeding in early pregnancy

Miscarriage: Pregnant mothers should seek medical attention immediately. The doctor will perform an ultrasound examination based on your situation to understand the development of the embryo. If the amount of bleeding is heavy, it means that miscarriage is inevitable, and a curettage surgery will be required in time. If the pregnant mother bleeds less, it may only be a threatened abortion. After treatment by a doctor and bed rest, most embryos can survive.

Ectopic pregnancy: If ectopic pregnancy is not treated in time, it is likely to endanger the life of the expectant mother. Therefore, if vaginal bleeding occurs in early pregnancy and is accompanied by abdominal pain, you should seek medical attention immediately without delay. Expectant mothers who have had a history of ectopic pregnancy should be more careful and undergo careful B-ultrasound examinations in the early stages of pregnancy. Determine whether the pregnancy is intrauterine.

2. Bleeding during the second trimester

Cervical insufficiency: It is best for pregnant mothers to go to the hospital for examination. Once cervical insufficiency is confirmed, the doctor will perform a cervical cerclage on the expectant mother. The operation only takes 5 to 10 minutes and is usually performed between 14 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. The effect is also very good.

Hydatidiform mole: The mother should go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible, mainly through uterine dilatation and curettage to remove the hydatidiform mole. But it is worth noting that hydatidiform mole may undergo malignant changes and develop into choriocarcinoma, so expectant mothers must insist on observation and examination.

3. Bleeding in late pregnancy

Placenta previa: Pregnant mothers should go to the hospital as soon as possible, and the doctor will usually use ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis. If the fetus is not yet mature, the general conservative treatment is to have the expectant mother hospitalized for observation and, if necessary, blood transfusion therapy until the fetus reaches maturity and is then removed by cesarean section. If an expectant mother experiences severe or persistent bleeding, maintaining the mother's life will be the priority.

Placental abruption: If the symptoms are mild, conservative treatment can be adopted. The expectant mother should rest in bed and be observed in the hospital. In more urgent situations, we still have to try to deliver the fetus. If the fetus is alive and there are signs of fetal distress, a cesarean section is ideal.

4. Other treatments for bleeding during pregnancy

Cervical erosion: If it is not serious, there is no problem of loosening of the internal os of the uterus or deep lacerations of the cervix, and it generally will not lead to miscarriage and fetal malformations. Cervical erosion caused by physiological factors does not need to worry about affecting the fetus, and will not cause miscarriage or fetal malformations. There is no need for medication or physical treatment. If treatment is really needed, it can be done after delivery. It should also be noted that if the cervix is eroded, there is no need to worry, and no special treatment is required during pregnancy.
