I fell down while 8 months pregnant

In the later stages of pregnancy, as the pregnancy progresses and the fetus is almost mature, the woman's abdomen will become very large. The female body is very fragile during this period, and women will feel a lot of pressure in the abdomen. The center of gravity of the body will also change greatly, so they need to protect their belly even more. So, what should you do if you fall while you are 8 months pregnant?

Causes of falls during late pregnancy

In the late pregnancy, the expectant mother's abdomen is already very large. Although a bulging belly is a sign of the healthy growth of the fetus, it is also the culprit that causes falls. A big belly can cause inconvenience in movement and imbalance of center of gravity, so it seems to be common for expectant mothers to fall.

When you fall, if your abdomen hits something, or if your whole body falls heavily, even if your abdomen is not hit, you should pay attention to whether it affects the fetus. The main impact of a fall on an expectant mother is placental abruption, which is the separation of the placenta from the uterine wall. This will cause the fetus to not get oxygen and nutrients, leading to hypoxia. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is recommended that expectant mothers go to the hospital promptly after a fall.

What to do after a fall

1. Ask someone to gently lift you up

Whether a pregnant mother falls while taking a bath at home or while going downstairs, the first thing to do is to ask someone to help her up. In addition, you should remind others to be gentle and not let others pull you up with force to avoid hurting yourself.

2. Check the injury

After the expectant mother gets up, she should first check which part of her body was hit and how serious the injury is.

3. Order to send to hospital promptly

Although the risk of falling is not high, it is better to go to the hospital and have a doctor check it out for safety. Every expectant mother who falls falls in a different situation. Some fall on their knees, some fall on their backs, and some fall directly on their abdomen. Generally speaking, if the abdomen does not hit the ground directly, the doctor will let the expectant mother go home after examination; but if it happens to hit the abdomen, the doctor will ask the expectant mother to stay in the hospital for observation according to the situation.

4. Provide good care after returning home

If the fetal movement is normal after the fall, there is no bleeding or abdominal pain, and the doctor's examination shows that there is nothing wrong, the expectant mother should listen to the fetal heart rate when she returns home if conditions permit, or do a fetal heart monitoring test when necessary, to make sure the fetus is in good condition.
