What does a soft cervix mean for pregnant women?

If the cervix becomes soft during pregnancy, the pregnant woman will feel it. This is because the progesterone and estrogen in the pregnant woman's body will increase rapidly due to pregnancy, which will cause the uterus of the pregnant woman to be excited. In addition, in the late pregnancy, the fetus needs to move into the pelvis, and the pregnant woman will also have false labor. So what does it mean when the cervix of the pregnant woman becomes soft?

Within one month of the expected date of delivery, changes in hormone levels in the pregnant woman's body increase the excitability of uterine muscle cells. Some pregnant women will experience irregular uterine contractions, sometimes occurring every few minutes, and sometimes occurring every half an hour or more. Each contraction lasts less than 30 minutes, and does not gradually increase in strength. Instead, it gradually weakens and disappears, and the cervix does not dilate. This situation is called "false labor."

Pregnant women's signs of delivery

Pregnant women only feel a slight distension in the lower abdomen. It often appears at night and disappears during the day, causing pregnant women to have poor sleep. Once it is confirmed that it is false labor, you can go home and have a good rest to gather your energy. Although false labor cannot dilate the cervix, it can soften the cervix and prepare for cervical dilation.

The main sign of labor is regular uterine contractions, that is, two uterine contractions are about 5-6 minutes apart, lasting at least 20-30 seconds and with a certain intensity. During uterine contractions, the mother will feel abdominal pain and a hard stomach. As labor progresses, the duration of uterine contractions gradually increases, while the intervals between contractions gradually decrease. As the uterus contracts, the cervix gradually expands and the fetal head continues to descend. Normal primiparas are expected to have full cervical dilation and give birth within 14 to 18 hours.
