Is it normal to have no pubic hair?

The genitals are a complex tissue that is an indispensable part of the human body and the basic tissue for people to complete various reproductive behaviors. The most typical feature of the pubic area is the abundant hair, which is a natural development phenomenon of the pubic area and one of the signs of sexual maturity. However, some people's pubic hair is too sparse, which affects the image of the pubic area. Let's take a look at whether it is normal for the pubic area to have no hair?

Pubic hair is one of the secondary sexual characteristics of the human body. Generally, girls start to grow pubic hair at the age of 11 to 12. If they still have no pubic hair or the pubic hair is sparse at this time, it is medically called alopecia. In this case, girls with alopecia are commonly known as "white tigers". After the onset of puberty, pubic hair grows from the pubic hair follicles due to the action of androgens. In fact, there is also a certain amount of androgens in the female body, which are secreted by the adrenal cortex and ovarian interstitium. The presence and density of pubic hair are related to the level of androgen in the body and the sensitivity of pubic hair follicles to androgen. If a woman simply does not grow pubic hair but all other aspects are normal, this may be due to the insensitivity of the pubic hair follicles to their own androgens. Of course, this is not a pathological condition and has no serious consequences. It does not affect her physical health, marriage or fertility.

Another possibility is that, in rare cases, it may be caused by a disease, such as hypothyroidism, which may cause sparse pubic hair. The influence of certain drugs, long-term and large-scale use of glucocorticoids before puberty, can feedback inhibit the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, causing renal cortex dysfunction or even atrophy, reduced or no secretion of male hormones, and sparse or absent pubic hair. If it is caused by a disease, pubic hair will grow again when the disease is cured, and it will not affect the marriage and sexual life after marriage.

Generally speaking, the presence and density of female pubic hair are related to the level of androgen in the body and the sensitivity of the pubic hair follicles to androgen. If it is just the pubic area that does not grow hair and other physiological functions are normal, you can rest assured that it will not affect future fertility.
