Advantages and disadvantages of contraceptive pills

Advantages and disadvantages of contraceptive pills

Contraception is a very important matter, and it is also an issue that everyone is familiar with now. Especially for many couples who do not plan to have a baby, choosing a good contraceptive method is even more critical. Many times people will choose contraceptives because many people feel that the side effects of contraceptives are relatively small and the harm to health is relatively small. However, if you choose contraceptives for a long time, you should ask the doctor's opinion.

Advantages and disadvantages of contraceptive pills

1. Advantages of long-acting contraceptives:

Its principle is to inhibit ovulation and resist implantation. Take it once a month, the drug effect lasts longer, will not affect normal sexual life, and is easy to manage.

2. Advantages of short-acting contraceptives:

The principle is a combination of estrogen and progesterone, which prevents sperm implantation by changing the environment of the endometrium and cervical mucus, thereby achieving the contraceptive effect. The advantages are good effect, safety, easy use, low dosage and relatively small side effects.

3. Advantages of emergency contraceptive pills:

The side effects of this contraceptive method are relatively large. This drug mainly destroys the body's hormone levels, inhibits ovulation or prevents the fertilized egg from implanting. The advantage is that it takes effect quickly.

Advantages and disadvantages of conventional contraceptive methods

1. Observe the ovulation period

Observing the ovulation period is one of the postpartum birth control methods chosen by most families. Couples who want birth control should avoid sex during this period. During ovulation, a woman's body temperature and uterine mucus will change. To use this method effectively, you can first learn how to calculate the ovulation period from your medical staff.

Advantages: No drugs or equipment are required and it does not affect breastfeeding mothers. There is no overhead.

Disadvantages: Restricts sexual desire, 25% of women will still get pregnant.

2. Reduce sperm survival rate

Reducing sperm survival rate mainly involves using chemicals to kill sperm. This chemical substance is usually in the form of jelly or emulsion and needs to be applied to the female vagina. Different brands of drugs have different usage methods, and some need to be prepared 30 minutes before sex. However, this drug is not recommended for long-term use, otherwise it may easily cause infection and other diseases. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid using this method.

Advantages: Easy to use, low overhead.

Disadvantages: 29% of women will still get pregnant and it may cause sexually transmitted diseases.

3. Condoms

Latex condoms are one of the more common contraceptive methods in modern society. The use of condoms by men can prevent sperm from entering the female body, preventing pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. But condoms are not a perfect solution. Among couples who use condoms, 15% of women still become pregnant within a year. Female condoms are not as popular as male condoms in China, but they are also a method of contraception, but they need to be placed in the body 8 hours before sex. Neither method requires any special requirements on the mother's body after childbirth, but women should still seek medical advice before using condoms.

Advantages: easy to purchase and prevents the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Disadvantages: Male condoms must be used every time you have sex to increase the contraceptive rate. Female condoms are much less effective than male condoms. And it cannot be used at the same time as male condoms.

4. Contraceptive pills
